Replacement 360

Post by Bender Unit »

Ok so my 360 is dead, 1 light but I am hoping it will be fixed by MS free of charge and will be sending it off this week – I lied and said it was showing 3 lights.

Like a junkie, it’s been two days now and I need a gaming fix! It’s too cold to work outside on the car, and playing emulated Amiga 500 games doesn’t compare!

So I was thinking of buying a new 360 premium with the 60GB HD. If I am lucky my old one will come back repaired and then I could always sell it on and make back some money. I wanted to get a bigger drive so I could save games to it and cut the noise!

So a few questions –

Does the 60gb premium come with a HDMI port?

How do I transfer all my DLC and saves from my 20gb drive to the 60gb drive?

Have people found the 60gb is too small? I know 60gb sounds like a lot but I thought I wouldn’t have any issues with 20gb and even after some savage file deletion I still don’t have much space left.

Are there any advantages to the Elite (other than its black and comes with the 120gb drive?)

Is there a noticeable difference between component lead and using HDMI?

Anyone found a good price on a new 360 60gb?

all 360s have hdmi as standard now, if ur lucky you will get the new Jaspa chip set which is the quietist yet, 6gig will prob hold around 8 gamesISH but that depends what other stuff u have on ur hdd.
trasfering dlc just log onto live select recover gamer tag then once u have recoverd it download all ur dlc again, game saves well ur either gonna need a memory card or a xbox 360 transfer cable (several places sell them)

Is there much difference between HDMI and component? Equally is there any visible difference between running 720 and 1080?

Would probably only load the few games I am currently playing (Fable / Fallout), the rest of the stuff on my drive is some DLC (Shivering Isles) so it sounds like I can save a few games and also some DLC without worrying about filling the HD up.

It works like that? Cool – still would be better if I can just transfer the contents rather than re downloading it all. Could I save stuff to a USB key or just a memory card?

Going to look at a transfer cable, sounds easier. Do I need a PC to do this?

There is a difference between component and HDMI...I noticed it when I got my Elite. 8)

Takes 5-10mins to get your gamer ID from XBL. Real simple to do mate.

Transfer cable works really well. Plug it in, connect your HD and play the disc that comes with it. Job done. :thumleft:

So the trans cable comes with the new console? I assume I can just plug the 20gb drive into the 60gb machine so I can play straight away?

Does the 60gb also come with a HDMI lead?

Is there anyway I can tell its a new Jasper machine, or the supposedly better console?

Oh dear, looks like I am mug. Just went and got an elite, they are cheap in zavvi. Can't see any difference in using hdmi though! Still big fat hdd to load games onto to quiet the console down. Disc drive is also marginally quiter though.

Will sell my old one when it comes back.

there's no difference between hdmi and component, they both produce HD images, the only time there will be a difference is down to the manufactirer of the equipment skimping on the quality of the input parts, so sometimes hdmi will look better, sometimes component will depending on the display :thumleft:

I played with the xbox settings and not the picture is sharper with better colour depth and tones - seems there is a difference between the 2 after all.

interesting, i did the same thing last year but bought an arcade. Haven't bothered sorting an hdmi for it as figured the component would be the same.

Oi where is my takeaway? :)

Will do some more tests back to back and see what changes I can make. There are some settings depending on input source so maybe you can improve the scart image as well?

I never seem to catch you online!

Takeaway order was so much they will be sending it through over the next few weeks.

It's suprising how many phoneboxes already had your number in as well...

HDMI definately looked crisper and brighter than component when I got my Elite. :thumleft: 8) Plus you can only get 1080i through component cant you? 1080p via HDMI.

Play with the settings, it'll make a difference. :thumleft:

Strangely I cant get 1080p? Surely my TV should display it? I have found adjusting the settings in the console manual really help the picture. Still even discounting the HDMI port the Elite is worth it for the HDD!

Saving games to the HDD makes it soooooo much quieter! It means I can load up the HDD with a few games, download what I want and not have to worry about deleting certain stuff to make room for more demos etc.

The stock premium HDD is supposedly 20g but I reckon its more like 13g! Add a shivering isles download, some saves, and a few extra maps and that’s all the space gone!

Will sell my old premium off when I get it back.

Keep a spare for when your elite blows up. That's what i've done (or I'm too lazy to sell my spare one).
