Red mk1a MR2 £675

Post by The TVIS Kid »

I'm selling my mk1 after over one and a half years ownership, It's to make way for a mk2 turbo i've just bought. The car is in good condition and would make an ideal daily car even a track car. I've have written a long description but if there are any other queries or other pictures required let me know. It has an MOT until the end of May and 6 months tax. The price is £675.

Mechanical – The mileage of the car reads 183K but there was a replacement engine fitted at 124K. This was a guaranteed low mileage (less than 50K) from fensport. It is actually a 1b engine from the later mk1 and I guess it has about 100K miles on it now. All the ancillaries are from a mk1a (i.e the inlet manifold, distributor, ecu etc). The engine runs very well and does not burn and oil or use any water. I bought the car with 163k on the clocks. At this time it had just been serviced and had the cambelt changed. I have then changed the plugs and oil every 6-8K miles the last been at 178K. I also replaced the air box with a K&N induction kit that’s bolted straight to the inlet manifold. The gearbox works well with no crunching of the synchros and no 5th gear pop out. The guy who owned the car before me had spent a fair bit of cash on the car including a reconditioned alternator, a new battery and had the discs and pads changed. The suspension has been changed to koni adjustable shocks (although I have never really played with these as I find the ride about right at present). There was a magnex exhaust on the car but the flexi pipe broke so I fitted a new Toyota exhaust system instead.

Bodywork – Overall it is quite good but there has been some work carried out on the arches. There is a receipt for about £1000 for body work when the previous owner had them fixed. Two of the arches (rear passenger & front drivers) are exceptionally clean and have no rust but the other two have rust starting to appear back through. Take a look at the pictures, I have taken some close up shots so you can see this. There is also a patch of rust on the rear valance behind the exhaust back box. The wheels are from a mk3 roadster that have been re-sprayed white. All the tyres are Yokohama Parada spec 2 and have only been on the car for about 1.5K miles so still have loads of tread left. I have found them to be very good in the dry and the wet.

Interior – Is very clean and presentable with no major damage, just standard wear and tear. However I will be taking my CD player out so there may be no radio (I will try and find where I put the standard radio and put it back in). There are a set of tailed mats that fit very nicely.

Problems with the car – There is a chip in the windscreen, this has been there since I bought the car and is not an MOT failure as it is out of the viewing area. The car is only insured 3rd party as a 3rd car so I have never got round to getting it fixed. The second problem is the heater fan doesn’t work on the 1st and 2nd setting, only on 3 and 4. It never bother me as I only use it to demist the front screen. I believe it’s a common problem and can be fixed by replacing the resistor pack from another car. There are no other know mechanical faults with the car.

The car wont actually be available until the 30th January as this is when i will swap my insurance over but people are welcome to come and view before that. There is also big wad of bills and service sheets etc to back up the cars history. I'm based in Soilhull, South Birmingham. My number is 07738223024.
