Selling car nightmare! Grrr

Is this just a terrible time to sell or does no-one want these cars anymore?!

Had my car up for a sale for a while now and am prepared to practically give the bloody thing away right now! lol Can't afford to keep insuring it.

Has anyone else had any problems selling one or can anyone suggest a good place to sell? What's worked for you?

I guess you've had it advertised on the club sites (MK1Club, pistonheads etc)?

If you can keep it off road have you considered SORNing the car?

Must admit I've never sold a Mk1 so can't give any more advice that that.

I would think that people are being careful with any spare cash that they have and are more worried about paying their mortgage, unemployment etc at the moment.

I would take Limey's advice and SORN it until the spring or summer to see if things improve. Where is the car listed in case people want to have a look?

It's in the for sale section on here. Trouble is my parents helped me out when I found a car I really wanted so I didn't have to sell this first and secondly I only have on street parking
If I could hang on until spring or summer I would coz I could prolly get a fair bit more but I just wanna give back my parents cash at the moment.

It looks ok, the only thing that could be putting people off is the write off Sadly I'd expect a non crash repaired to be not far off that price.

How long have you had the car? I gather that you brought the car damaged and then got it back on the road?

Yeah, that's an issue, you may be right but as said, I don't agree to hiding the fact coz I've got nothing to hide and the car drives fine. I had to put some new suspension parts in at the rear offside. I spent more than I care to think about at a mk1 specialist in Coventry.

It's so tidy though in terms of inside, outside and underneath, I don't know how much less I can let it go for as I know it's a great car. I think if anyone comes to see it it'll sell but it's getting people in the first place thats tricky!

They're very difficult cars to price all in all, it's just a case of whatever someone will pay for it, there's no 'Glasses' guide for these things!

oh, to answer your question, I bought it about 18 months ago and it was fine til I discovered the uneven wear on the rear tyres when I changed them and the handling was all off. Got it sorted and the chassis has been checked thoroughly and it's never been touched.

Thing is I now do regular trips down south to Crawley and Brighton from Derby and it's not the quietest motorway cruiser so have bought a big ol' car with leather heated seats etc etc much more suited!

Good luck with the sale but you do yourself no favours with the ad,you need more solid facts,e.g.
--detail all recent expenditure that you are aware of
--is the gearbox good?...and the clutch?...engine showing good pressure/using no oil/water?
--tyres/brakes/ hand brake good?
--Exhaust?
...tax/mot/?
You get the idea.
People want to know the good bits to give them some incentive to call you,otherwise they may not call because they expect just bad news.
Also get up some more pictures as you promised,including the interior.
Make your mind up and state a proper price...do you want £1500 or £1000 or maybe a bit less?

Anyway it looks nice and shiny and I like the wheels.

We all know the bad points on our cars but it is always nice to know what is right with the car. My car was an insurance write off and it didn't put me off, on a 20 year old car it is not unusual. You really need the pictures though as no one will travel to see a car if they are not sure what it looks like

If you really want to shift it and are feeling brave then put it on ebay with no reserve. Make sure you put a good, clear write up though, again with good pictures. I would go for a 7 or 10 day sale personally. Good luck.

Though I have to say I had a bit of a falling out with them after they kept my car for four weeks and the crappy hire car they lent me even broke down before charging me a fortune for the work on my car so speak to them if you need someone in the area and make up your own mind

Ive just got a new car and selling the MR2 never even crossed my mind reason is i just wont get anywhere near what its worth to me. Not many people are willing to spend £1000 on a 20 year old car when new cars are becoming so cheap to buy.

It could be the beginning of the end for the mk1.

A MK1 "specialist" is not exactly what I'd refer to them as

However, I have used them for parts a few times and they have been good
But I only used them, because my usual sources were either out of stock or could get the parts in the time I've needed them.

Poor - Average £500

My dads been trying to sell his red tbar SUPERCHARGER with only 77k miles and had loads of parts replaced, droplinks, pollybushed, stainless exhaust for about 6 months now, been looked after by WOODSPORT for 4 years, he only wants around £2200 for it, but nope cannot shift it at the moment, it's just sittng in the garage under cover but he refuses to give it away for peanuts, when he bought the car a few years back he paid £4400 for it.
