Cost of Spraying??

Post by GGilbert_MR2 »

Interested to know what the average cost would be to have a front end of my Mr2 resprayed. That includes: front Bumper, bonnet & both wings...

I was quoted £500, with a large amount of that cost being paint?
Its 202 Black - Where could i get that amount of paint for a good price and just pay this guy labour? He thinks 2 days work, which is £240 labour & £260 paints.

Let me know your thoughts

TIA

£500 is a pretty good price for 2 wings, bonnet ,and nosecone, most bodyshops would be around this price for that size of job.

He's probably priced it as £200 for the nose £100 for each wing and £100 for the bonnet.

Bodyshops tend to have fixed prices in their minds when pricing a job,
usually 200 for a bumper etc

any good motor factors will have a paint side through there business, like dingbro or taylors, the trick is being able to get it as a trade price, i'm in college so get them to buy it,

do you know anyone who works in a garage ?

shame you dont live near coventry,my dad has just opened a bodyshop and is looking for work.£500 isent a bad price but £260 sounds steep for the paint that must be for all the materials as well.the beat thing to do is to just shop around and go to a bodyshop you can trust.

£500 sounds very reasonable for that amount of work to be done properly....although £260 in paints alone? sounds like way to much...

Thanks for the replies.

I agree with the paint costs being expensive, that includes all the laquer & primer...

What quantity of primer, laquer and 202 black would i need to do the front end as per first post? anyone get it me cheap, so i just pay labour.

To paint the front end of an mr2 in 202 is about 1ltr max of basecoat, and 1ltr of clearcoat laquer..... activator and thinners are cheap... you are looking at no more than about £50-£60 worth of raw materials there even with a few rolls of masking tape and paper thrown in.

£260 sounds about right for materials??? you must be joking! I could paint 3 or 4 cars with the paint/materials bought with that.
