Dino, Ian told me "that set up will give you 420/430at the fly" not bad guess

I'd say that's pretty bang on! :D Mind you, I gave him the potential figures for your turbo. ;)

With more boost, and more setup, you could see high 400s with that, no probs. But GOTTA solve this damn coolant problem out! :(

We want bigger injectors and 2 bar :D !! LOL

Congrats Andy!! Bet that car will be scary in the wet

Ooo ... question, why was the car only being revved out to 7k? I'd of thought with your cams the peak hp would be higher than that?
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

When i looked at the AFR plot it was quite rich where andys plot goes low at about 5k, Pete said he was struggling to get the fuelling perfect and didnt seem that happy with the fuel control of the tec3 - although he didnt swear at it much :)

All in all its a really good result for an early mapping session though - with bigger injectors and some more mapping its going to get even better - its got loads of potential left!,

I just need to catch up now, im nearly 60bhp down!! - Pete is going to have a look at mine again on Saturday, he removed loads of ignition advance last time to keep it safe - hopefully with the new Pace core we can get some of it back!.

Neil.

A guess here, but maybe because he's got the 0.63 A/r housing? The IC could be coming into play here, too.

For comparison mine made 345bhp @ 1.2 bar, Andys made 356 @ 1.2 bar (i think?) so it just shows the difference between the GT28 and GT30 is - Andys seemed to be making boost about 600-700rpm later than mine but it was coming in harder.

Just for fun, Andy got these results (from memory...)

315bhp at 0.9 bar

= 61bhp for 0.5 bar (12.2bhp/0.1 bar)

376bhp at 1.4 bar

= 32bhp for 0.2 bar (16bhp/0.1bar)

408bhp at 1.6 bar

Doesent look like Andy is seeing any of the problems I was with the Spearco IC core. I was getting less and less returns once the boost went over 1 bar. If we assume that Andy's fuelling is fixed and the coolant and he can squeeze 2 bar through the spearco then...

~ 14bhp / 0.1 bar
+ 0.4 bar = 56.4 bhp
408+ 56.4 = 464.4bhp at the hubs. (11% loss = 515bhp @ fly)

Probably miles out but we know these turbos can easily run that kind of boost efficiently so 500bhp @ fly should be Andy's goal i think :)

The IC didnt really get a proper test since the runs were spaced so far apart, maybe 15 - 20 mins due to the coolant bubbling over. And it was obviously very cold - at least he proved that the Spearco IC is able to flow that mass of air without being restrictive, we just need to prove that it is able to keep it cold when the ambient is high in the summer. Time will tell on that one!

One thins is for sure though Andy must have the biggest b*ll*cks in the world! that power was running through a pair of nankang's and the rear wheels had a nut missing on each side!!

:)

Neil, when you and I have been comparing the charge face area, we haven't been taking into account the ACTUAL area, just the quick calculation including the channels that are for cooling. When I did all my measurements, I actually worked out the proper area. Now, if your core has the tubes on the side for flow, then your ACTUAL area will be significantly less. As I say, the Spearco is significantly smaller than even the ST205CC in this respect. If my thinking is right, then your actual area is quite a bit smaller than the Spearco. If not, we're back to square one with your car! :?

I wouldn't add 11%. More like an absolute of 20-25bhp at the top end (30bhp MAX). So that would read 475@FW. Still bloody good, don't you think? ;)

I was really impressed with the results - knowing how what a PITA this stuff can be its nice to see Andy get some results!

Regarding the Pace CC core I am mildly optimistic after chatting to Pete that it might be better than I think due to the ignition retard he put in. The fact that I can feel a difference means that something has changed with regard to flow and once the ignition is advanced again the true results will become available. Pace seem to think I had the original development core which wasnt made properly, it was just a test - they seem to think that some of the internal connections and pipework were "rough" and that the production unit should flow 2 bar of boost with no problems - I guess I will find out on Saturday!

I will let you know :)

Morning chaps, just got up

I thought of somthing while i was having my coffee.
Neil remember when we got back from the pub, the "other guy"
said that somthing had made a high pitch screaming noise down the front of the engine then sounded like it freed its self, he said i would check your water pump as he thought it came from there!!
Don't know how i forgot this last night, must have been tired.

Glad its all come together for you Andy! Just in time for you to sell it when the baby arrives  :D lol Really pleased your getting some good power, it seems that some bigger injectors will yeild some more power. Also you still have the nitrous system to plug in

Hope you and Krista are well?

Cheers

What injectors are you running at the moment? They were 650's wernt they? The mr2oc shop has 800's at a cheap price - otherwise I dont know what to suggest. I will probably order mine from Nengun.com when the engine is up and running. I also have a chap in the Us who can source injectors at a good price.

Also maybe a co2 spray to knock the heat out of the ic? Should cost around 50 odd to make yourself if your interested.

You should stop feeding her pies then  :D Not long now I guess! Then you have the joys of disturbed sleep, and nappies! lol :D

Soon with any luck, things are made harder by the fact that I have to travel 30 mile just to get to the engine :( Bottom end will be built next weekend - still waiting on parts for the head itself to finish that off.

Then its just a case of picking a suitable spec turbo.

Cheers

Only just, she tends to switch off and just pretend she is listening :D Its ok I talk to myself now instead :? :D

Ah pants, I will dig out an email for this chap in the states and forward it onto you, you can give him a shout and see what he can sort. He offered 850's my way for around 300, shouldnt have a problem getting any size you want. I left the offer as I am just getting the engine back together on stock ECU and injectors before I slap in bigger injectors, and the EMS.

Cheers
