Apparently Sony didn't anticipate the demand (perhaps they thought it was pants too)

It's an interesting idea, though was round a friend's last night and they have a crap broadband connection, so downloading different areas was a PITA. Will try it at home where download speeds are not an issue.

I think you have to give these things a chance to develop, it is the beta after all.

Idiots!!! it was a obvious a free worldwide beta would cause this. Warhawks release in the US crashed the servers and LBP's release did too #-o

Give it a chance to develop???

It's been in development for 8 years, it was originally planned for life on the PS2 #-o

Well okay, though I do think it is one of those applications that can be quite far reaching, so inherently very complex I think.

I guess it might have been better to say that it may require some time to be implemented effectively.

I've not had any issues with it apart from a few failed log-ins but persistence soon paid off. I don't think 8 years to develop it sounds bad at all considering how big a project it is. People are too fussy and want it all, right now, but, whenever they rush something out people complain that it's not good enough and they would have prefered to wait longer for a finished product. ](*,)

Not at all bad for a freebie IMO! :thumleft:

Well i've managed to log on, took about 5 minutes of trying to get there.

It is quite interesting. Had a lot of fun making my avatar. Was quite good fun playing around with face shapes, hair and make-up. :+:

Have been to the shopping centre and I guess predictably clothes cost money. Mind you there really isn't any selection worth worrying about at the moment, though I did fancy the denim jacket in Threads.. though 79p is a tad expensive.

Went to the Theatre/cinema and saw some previews which was quite a novel way to look at content, kind of nicer that just downloading stuff from PSN.

It's early days so we'll have to see how it goes. Think it could get more interesting as they implement more stuff to it.

That'll explain the way it looks :D

Tried logging on numerous times today with no luck

I was a little dissapointed they didn't have my nose and hair but apart from that, the avatars are great fun to make! I made one look like me as much as I could then put a little extra weight on to see what I'd look like after xmas! :thumleft:

So it appeals to women.

Well, that's another reason I just "don't get it" #-o
Paying for something that doesn't really exist and has no benefit  I think teens are going to love it

Has no benefit? Why? because you don't understand why someone would pay for something that 'doesn't exist' or get enjoyment out of something you 'don't get'?
Are you Spock by any chance?

Well I did get the Hasslehoff add-on for Pain
But it's a little different to a virtual denim jacket :-k

My ears are worse than Spock, and he's got more hair than me. Perhaps I could buy a hat for my dude in Home for 79p \:D/

The only hat on offer was a cowboy hat the last time I looked, but you'll be pleased to hear it was 59p IIRC. :thumleft:

I've managed to get on once, designed a chap, went for a wander, got bored, logged out - I can see it being a nice little earner for them once they get everyone on and buying virtual crap though.

There is that, then there's the advertising potential, plus they are meant to be implementing user specific advertising in the future, Sony Big Brother =;

One my mates came round earlier and it managed to log in so i've downloaded most of the parts i think, We went busking outside the theatre, Sat down and started to type out the lyrics for cliff richards mistletoe and wine, a few people started dancing? and i think i was being swore at in french and german because lots of asterisks appeared in the text box so i switched it off.

Downloaded, managed to log in, what a total waste of effort. Wait for MB of downloads to be bombarded with advertising and wander around in a distinctly non-interactive environment with a bunch of illiterate morons.

I'm not deleting it, in case they make it do something useful or fun, but as it stands, it's a fairly inexplicable exercise. If it had the ability to bring your online "friends" onto the PSP or something... then maybe.

Never understood why Sony's servers are so awful, I always end up downloading updates from the website and using a memory card. Same WiFi, same ADSL, but the direct-to-PS3 downloads often fail.

You're not wrong there.
I'm the same, all my system updates are done from the memory stick after downloading on the PC.
And I have absolutely zero chance of getting the GT5p 'update' due to this - why does it keep timing out? It's not like the data for an update has to be sent/received real-time ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
