my tv has 4 hdmi ports but i only have 2 hdmi devices so i have enough space for that etc.
my tv also has optical out so i can just use that for my surround (i hope)
also ill be using my ps3/360 as my dvd player so wont need an extra dvd player.
the surround im buying is just the sub, 5 satalite speakers and a control unit.
all the devices plug into the control unit and all the speakers plug into the amp.
will i still need a seperate av thingy if i do it that way? or would it all be ok to do it with what comes with my new system?

i'd plug the xbox audio straight into the control unit rather than sending it to the tv and then the amp, also if there's another optical input i'd link your tv to the control unit as it'll give way better sound than your tv speakers, i just keep my tv on mute all the time :thumleft:

The receiver isn't neccesary, they're just handy if you use lots of devices, i keep all my stuff in a unit out of sight and just one hdmi runs from the unit to the tv, plus they're good amps, need to buy speakers separately tho it's a bit dearer than an all in one system, then you get the bug and think 'if i spend another £50 i can get better speakers' then before you know it you've walked out of richer sounds £400 lighter than when you walked in #-o

look at the fun you could have with all those inputs

that's £200, then a set of onkyo speakers would set you back £170 at richer sounds, that'd be a good budget set up IMO, obviously it's twice the price of what you're looking at but i'm soo glad a got a decent system, COD4 is frickin amazing with the sound turned up and the sub booming \:D/ edit: richer sounds are doing the KEF speakers for £199 :thumleft:

i dont get why currys and the like dont sell A/V receivers.

so much better than the DVD surround sounds they sell.

i was talking to one of there salesmen and they agreed.

i bought min for £200 about 4 years ago and it still does me proud and i havent filled all the inputs yet.
