cat test for mot

hi guys its that time of year for a mot.i bought the car almost a year ago with 12 months mot and its my first mot with this car.i just wanted to know if my car requires a cat test.its a 1995 rev3 turbo.any advice given would be a great help.cheers guys

You may need a cat on that as import turbo MR2s didn't require a cat pre '95 due to no model report.

If your car was first registered 1st August 1995 onwards, you'll need to have your cat in place and working.

thanks for the replys guys.just had a look at the registration certificate and it was registered on the 2nd of aprill so no cat test is needed.thanks guys

my rev 3 is listed as first registered 01/01/1996 and at its last MOT was tested without a cat, no problem

I took a 99 mk2 turbo and a 00 mk3 turbo both with no cats both passed their MOT...

My UK rev 5 passed too minus cat, and over here MOTs can't be carried out by certified mechanics, you have to bring them to a big MOT centre where everything is logged through the computer

You do here too, but although they are a dying breed, it seems there is still the odd tester willing to do a bent MOT test

to be fair if i were an mot tester and the only thing preventing the all clear was the emmisions test i'd let it go, it isn't detrimental to the road worthiness of the car and you know if it comes back for re-test with a cat that'll just be swapped out after

Not really.
Simply remove the passenger seat and present the car to the MOT tester.
As a non-passenger vehicle the vehicle is except from a cat test and simply has an emissions test.

That's how I've MOT'd my 95 race car my 99 turbo 00 mk3 turbo and I'll be MOT'ing my 2004 race car this way too.

From the MOT handbook:

For emissions purposes, a 'passenger car':

- is constructed or adapted for the carriage of passengers

- has no more than 5 seats in addition to the driver

- has a maximum gross weight not exceeding 2500kg

Whether you take the seat out or not, it was still constructed for the carriage of passengers.. Blimey, you'll have every post 8/95 car rolling up for an MOT with no seats in....
