BALLS

you tell me that someone will pay 150 pound more just so the don't have a power supply outside the console[-( [-X :-k :-k :-k :-k :-k

sorry but would not even look and would not even have know untill after i bought it

No people pay an extra £150 so they can have THE best blueray player on the market, an internal hard drive, built in wireless network adapter, oh and the fact that they do not need to send their machines off every 6 months to have 3 little red lights fixed. sounds like £150 well spent to me :thumleft:

what output does it have to support this? not doubting it. jus confused. i thought youd need a special output or a few even.

kinda like a PC surround sound card.

Is dolby true HD not the recognised top audio format? lots of BD players now have the ability to play it back, the PS3 does not, it may be able to play back a similar quality but that's pretty pointless if your bluray disc has a True HD soundtrack, then oyu're stuck with the standard soundtrack, i'm not knocking the ps3 as a bd player, just saying it's not THE best on the market, sony's standalone players now all support dolby true hd audio [-X

btw, think i'll be getting a ps3 sometime afer xmas, there's a few decent deals on at the minute but think they'll drop again in feb/march, tho like matt i'm guessing it'll be used mostly as a BD player

I saw a 160gb PS3 in the paper the other day for pre-order. If they follow suite and offer than for £300 it'll be worth waiting I guess.

I was thinking recently that I never had an interest in playing Ps1/2 games on the PS3 or Xbox games on the Xbox 360

BUT - when they both eventually bring out new machines (got to be due in a couple of years?) I really do hope they are backwards compatible as this time I will want to!

I certainly wouldnt want loads of machines hanging around making a mess.

Is it even worth trying to start a balanced argument here? The trouble is that people usually only have the money to buy one console, so they then feel they have to justify that purchase to anyone and everyone within earshot (or monitor range). The real truth is that neither console is better, only more suitable for a purpose in the same way that a Gallardo isn't automatically a better car than a Mondeo: What if you need 4 seats? The Lambo's no good then.

For me, the 360 is still the console I play on the most simply because I prefer the controllers. I use my PS3 only for SingStar and BD movies, and it's brilliant for doing those things which I simply can't do on the 360. I care not whether one console can do sound better, or whether one version of a game has 27 more polygons than the other, or if one has more storage which I'll never use anyway. All of that is completely irrelevant to my needs in a games/entertainment console.

The PS3 works far better as a standalone media centre than the 360, but the beige box links in with streaming media from a PC so it depends what you want there. If you want something that will last a bit longer before an upgrade you'd also buy a PS3, whereas if you want something that doesn't have millions of options to fiddle with the sound and video (not always a good thing) then get an XBox. If you purely want to game then I would recommend the 360 over the PS3 simply because it's cheaper and the games are nigh-on identical now, but if you want to play BD movies then you'd be a fool to buy anything other than a PS3 if you've got the extra money.

Ekona,

This is more a thread to take the arguing away from other threads. It's getting boring how nearly every one decends into an argument about which is best even though thats not what it was about.

That's my point. It's ridiculously childish arguing over which is best unless you actually are a child, so I thought I'd nullify any argument in one fell swoop and bring peace and harmony to this beloved forum. If that doesn't work, then I suggest a smashing game of conkers at 20 paces.

Or marbles.

Well ideally every time some one goes off topic arguing about the consoles the mods can move those posts to this thread or tell them off and nip in in the bud before it becomes another 10 page epic.

Seriously CBA to do that. Total waste of moderator time. Unfortunately if that's what you want then you'll all have to learn to behave yourselves and not get into a slagging match about which is better in the first place.
