Radiator Trim Cover

Hi - does any one know if on my MK1A I can add the radiator trim cover from a MK1B to tidy up that open area under the front bonnet?

Is it a straight fit or totally different?

you will need to cut some holes for the rad mount, other than that, it fits

As far as I know, true Mk1a (eg !985 or early '86 models) didn't have a radiator cover

I have a mk1a 87 that has no cover I made one by cuuting up a mk1b

leave it as it is the cover achieves nothing. paint the rad a nd brackets nicely and have it as it should be.

Exactly - my MK1 A does not have a cover but the radiator area does not look finished off like on the 1B so want to add a cover.

Pic shows open area leaving the radiator on display. Would finish it off if covered up IMO.


Will get a cover and do some DIY to fit.

I tried to mod a cover which i thought was a simple case of cutting slots in it for the raised brackets. wrong, the cover then touches the top of the rad. so the rad either needs to go down or the top needs to lay back. the brackets are different on a 1b car so maybe that may be enough to make it fit .

The 1b brackets make the top of the radiator sit further back, this is mine (1b)
