Finally, 3s and 2Bartuning

Post by skipp123 »

well what can i say about my experiance.....

in the month of august 07, i delivered the car to james via hes trailor company he uses as i had loads of knock showing from the power fc and after dropping the car off was informed cylinder 3 was down on compression, so then came the painstaking task of finding a spec i wanted to build {with James help}.

i sourced..

HKS 1.2mm Head Gasket
HKS Kevlar Cam Belt
APR Head Bolts
APR Flywheel Bolts
APR Main Studs
Cleveite Big end Bearings
Cleveite Main Bearings
Cleveite Thrust Bearings
Eagle H Beam Conrods
CP Forged Pistons 86.25mm
Fensport Blue Oil Catch Tank

Painted Rocker cover in custom blue marble

PUMPS, GASKETS {genuine Toyota} AND OILS
Oil filter
Fuel Filter
Tensioner bearing
Idler bearing
Oil pressure switch
Rocker cover gasket
Rev4 gasket set
Distributor cap 5mm leads
Rotor arm
Water Pump
Oil Pump
Alternator belt
Aircon belt
Millers Running in oil 10/40

FUELING
Precision Engineering 880’cc injectors

Wolfkatz Top Feed Fuel Rail

Walbro 255 Fuel Pump

now october 07 i sent a nice parcel to 3s with the above items enclosed, James informed me on delivery some parts wernt in the box i expected and said it wasnt a prob as he had the parts on the shelf and hed swap them over and put my bits into hes stock when they turned up, doing hes upmost to suppost the project and get it on its way,

november 07, james emailed me pics out the blue of the bottom end all asembled which was great, didnt expect such a quick turn around as i told him to do my build inbetween other work he had already booked in.

another set back november 07, as when the boys were getting around to putting the oil and water pumps on id actualy been sent rev1 turbo items not rev3+ Cheers to Jeffd who resolved the problem and we had nessesery parts the very next day.

december 07 i recived a pm simply stating, engine back in :}. which was fantastic news, James informed me the car was running very nicely everything looks as it should and is basicly ready for collection, so around a week later i returned to 3s with a big smile on my face. seeing the car again made me realise how silly i was to be looking to sell her after the rebuild, and after james fired her up well i was back in love and after james explained the running in procedure it was time to hit the road

jan 07, dropped the car back to james after a few running in miles to have the oil changed and general look over the build, every thing looked as it should so i was sent on my way to finish the running in. late jan 08 i returned with all milage compleeted, had another oil/filter change and returned home

feb 07 returned to 3s for another change of oil and check up then ryan at 2bar tuning took me down the road to surrey rolling road. put the car on the dyno started tunning, made very good power at 1bar 300bhp ish with no timing played with, ryan started creating the higher boost setting and found it was detting at around 1.4bar said it could be a faulty injector.... {bangs head on wall} however james ryan and i decided to go with a wolfkatz 880 top feed injectors and wolfkatzs fuel rail.

march 07 after a long wait from the states i got my nice new shiney injectors and rail dropped them down to james again to be fitted at a special rate {cheers again mate}.... then returned to surrey rolling rd for what i thought would be final tune, anyway ryan started tuning the car with me watching from the sidelines everything looked great untill i saw puffs of smoke coming from the engine bay around redline, pointed it out to ryan who advised aborting the mapping as dripping oil + down pipe could mean fire.... again good safe advise from ryan TOP LAD, so with me pi$$ed off that im still not mapped i called james this is at 7.30pm to which he answered and basicly said il come have a look.... GREAT AFTER SERVICE.. he came to surrey rolling road had a look around the car and said to drop it to him and hed enspect FOC... anyway it turned out to be a dodgey oil dipstick after this was replaced everything looked great.

may07 ryan came down to my house to run a final map on the car on the road it feels so much nicer than the previouse map, no hunting around at idle, nice smooth power, now drives its self ie no juddering in traffic, basicly set the car up great explained afr to me knock and a few other bits was a great guy...

cars now done 4kish with only 1,000 being boosted miles and it runs faultlessly doesnt use oil, and in general is a very good build/map.

i just wanted to say to anyone who is thinking about a built engine i cant speak any higher than i do of both James and the team @ 3s for building the car and dealing with my constent emails and phone calls lol, and ryan imo best mapper in the uk. i cant stress enough the customer service and profesionalism of both companies. since the rebuild i have spent loads of time asking both tuners veriouse questions and tied them up on the phone for a long time and they are both willing to run though or explain anything.

having both James and Ryan on IMOC is great for all of us and i just wanted to share my great if not frustrating experiance with you all. if i ever had to do another mr2 id be going straight back to them both
