they are supposed to be getting some in here.

£340 though

from what people have said you can put your own HDD in there so you might aswell by the base model which you can get now and spend £40 on a new HDD.

can probably get bigger than 160gb for that now anyway.

£45 for 250gb.

jus wait till someone confirms thats the right type if you want to buy it but google says its a sata laptop drive so it should be fine.

I know nothing about the 80gb model but the main difference between the other 2 was that the 40gb one isn't backwards compatible and i think it may have 1 less usb port. Other than that i don't think there's anything much to worry about.

Did they not discontinue the 60gb one as well? I could be wrong but i'm sure i've seen both the 40 and 80 models for the same price meaning you'd be mad not to get the 80gb one!

The 40gb one doesn't have a memory card reader and 2 USB ports, plus it lacks backward compatibility with the PS2 (this may have changed recently, I bought it a fair while back) - although TBH the only PS2 game I've ever played on my PS3 is GTA San Andreas, never used the memory card reader and at most used 2 USB slots. Go cheap and upgrade the HDD.
I bought a 60gb model and chucked in a 320gb drive for £49. Sony endorse the changing of drives so there's no warranty to void and it takes any 2.5" drive you throw at it. Took about 2 mins to change, flick off the cover with your finger, unscrew 3 screws, slide the drive in and it's job done.

You can use any external USB drive too, just make sure it's formatted FAT32, not NTFS.

Changing HDD doesn't affect warranty of the other hardware, send it back and they'd determine if the fault was caused by a cup of coffee in the air vent or a general failure. I don't think an HDD would actually harm any other hardware unless it exploded like a small grenade. If my PS3 failed, I'd stick the standard HDD back in, test it, if it still didn't work I'd then send it back.

If your aftermarket HDD is faulty then it's down to you to change - or contact the HDD manufacturer.

Sounds Good can get a nice 80gb model with all the tricks im not fussed about the fact that it will only play 1 out of 5 PS2 games now they have removed the Emotive chipset. Which is fine i only have Black and GTA3 on PS2 so its all good.

Got a nice 500GB external unit i picked up for £50! thats in the same nice black so just going to go find a decent bundle now shame they dont just do a PS3 with the Blu-Ray remote anbd the Play TV. would be perfect!

Also i have heard that the games are region free? but your restricted to that region for multiplayer?

I've never heard that before! There's no restriction on region for multiplayer as far as I've ever seen, I regularly play people from all over. You can tell when the yanks get home from work/college because the language gets worse and the whining gets louder ;)
Games themselves are indeed region free.

Edit: Just googled, some publishers do indeed region lock multiplayer, Army of Two. Weird thing to do, maybe they're concerned about ping latency and people moaning about it.

They should make 'regional multiplayer' default and have an optional international mode/room where you can play who you want, just agree to some T&Cs saying you understand multiplayer speeds might be slower yadda yadda yadda.
The games I play with people State-side don't usually suffer with lag.

Army of Two is the only one i've heard of too cos some of the lads in work got it cheap from Japan, Something to do with the blood/gore differences within' the game depending on what region allowed what.

i have to say i havent heard it used since the original xbox when we were all on 512kbs down and 256 up.

does seem lazy of the devs. specially when army of two was a massive 4 players online wasnt it?

if you want to read about ps3

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3

in short none of the new one will play ps2

and my 60gb one is waiting to be pick up for repair (no disc ) bad len in ps3 (very very common) in fact so common they run out of secuity box to pick them up and have to delay more than a week good news was repair is free for first time even outside warrenty

and people usually change the internal hd with a 2.5 inch sata and sony say that dont effect your warrenty

Is it? I know the PS2 suffered this (I got lucky and never had an issue, a couple of my friends had failed lens on their PS2s though), first I've known about the PS3 having the issue though.

well my ps3 is no disc now

google ps3 no disc

even search ebay for ps3 len replacement, you will found alot

and i dont even spend that many time on my ps3,

and regard to multiplayer do have region lock, it only look for regional server
so if u buy US game when come multiplayer you cannot connect to Euro server as the disc will look for us server etc

but if it is not sony design fault, i doubt they be that nice to offer me free repair + collection even it is out of warrenty.

and they ring me back they run out of secuity box so cannot pick up till next week

Sony only ordered 10 boxes this year, they wanted to re-order (someone at Sony had used 7 of them to sell stuff on eBay) but MS had already cleaned the supplier out.
