tbh i've not used yellow stuff but i've used red stuff and rate them very high for the money. They do wear out quite quick tho as they have a copper mixture in em.

I used carbotecs (been through 2 sets) on track days etc & they are very very good but expensive - & ruin your wheels unless cleaned regularly.
Now moved to yellow stuff - nearly as good - still no fade & stop the car fine - half the cost and now onto 2nd set of them.
Wear wise I don't think they're any worse - & much less hot dust.
People race with yellowstuff - aren't they classed as an endurance race pad ?
Anyway they're fine.

Agreed Carbotech was too expensive...someone who done regular trackdays aka JonB advised me on Yellow stuff and I think they are awesome esp for road use as well.

I advised another m8 who loves them...hear that they are far superior than Redstuff as it uses a different compound.

Hi ive been running greenstuff pads for a while now theyre better than stock but loads o dust, was just wonderin are the yellowstuffs ok for road use? are they the sort u gotta warm up? yknow like when u get to the end of the road n sail straight on cos the pads are cold lol im using the greenstuffs in conjunction with EBC turbo grooved discs makes for pretty good cost effective brake upgrade IMHO :thumleft:

I've never heard anyone rate Greenstuff. Redstuff were marketed as suitable for fast road driving use, and yellow for track.

I have a set of yellows waiting to go mine when my stock ones wear out (3 years and they've still not worn out  ), but my mate rates them and he's much more on and off the brakes than me, and rated them from cold too.

look at PERFORMANCE FRICTION pads. ive tried most brands of fast road pads but these win HANDS DOWN.

Theyre not cheap and they will ruin cheap discs tho

i found they're great for stopping...

Just make sure all 4 calipers are clamping properly... i was swearing at my brakes for ages until a MOT showed that 3 of my calipers were running well under 50%

Just to resurect this....

I'm trying to decide between red and yellow stuff for my Mk2 Turbo, as I'm planning on doing some track days in it now.

I've got a few requirements....

- Non agressive dust. I don't mind cleaning my wheels, but I'd like something that comes off without a brillo pad

- Quiet pads, I don't want something that squeals on the road

- The need to stop me :)

I'm not particularly hard on the brakes, but need something that'll cope with ~300bhp and trackdays..

Should probably add that I'll be getting some Hankook RS-2 track tyres, so they should increase the load on the brakes over the Toyo T1R's..

Do the Yellow Stuff pads give me what I want?

Thanks,
Jon

yellow :thumleft:
i bought a set 4 months ago, still not fitted, but heard good things about them

ive currently got greenstuff, dusty, but fade from top end way too early!
redstuff apparently almost dust free excellent from cold and bit better than greenstuff, but yellow still good from cold, not quite as good as reds, but far out weight brake fade from top end and pretty much endless hard braking, can get a set for around £50!

If you want better, go carbontech or something but your looking at £110+ for a set!

hope this helps

The main negative of yellow stuff pads is they can wear quite fast on track, but do seem to have very good anti-fade properties. I saw a photo of somone's yellowstuff pads a while ago which looked almost burnt out, but before they were removed they still worked very well.

I guess the Carbotech's last a fair bit longer, and out perform the yellowstuff, but at a cost. Many have reported they squeek during road use and as you know the dust is very bad. Depends what you're after...

Massive thumbs up for Carbotechs from me. Had them on for a while now and not a bad word on the performance side to say about them.
They have never squeeked as some people find.
They are dusty though, only downside though.

Would you say you're gentle or fairly harsh on the brakes? Do you use them a lot?

I'm quite gentle on the brakes, I don't want to push the car too hard on the track anyway, as I can't afford to bend it!

Thunmbs up for yellow too- Im hard on the brakes on a track, and no squeal on road or track from me- here is a vid of them in action at Le Mans on a track day- squealing is the tyres:

I think you mean this thread:

My guess is that set weren't properly tempered and bedded in before the trackday. If you follow a good bedding in procedure (that gets the pads up to temperature to temper the surface, not just using them for a couple of hundred miles) first they should last much longer than that. Both Garrick (System-G) and Jo (mr2mk1Chick) use them regularly on track and I believe they last pretty well.

I have a set of Yellow Stuff on mine and they were very good on track and perfectly safe for road driving too. Managed 128 miles of hardish track driving (120-40mph at the end of the main straight) They don't squeak at all and bite very nicely, especially when warmed up.

The only downside is the amount of dust - I have white wheels which shows it up. It cleans off easily enough, though. Just a quick wipe is all that's needed.

Yellow work very well indeed. I have them on my 1.5 and on my tubby. The tubby has been on track and the road, the 1.5 just the track. I did a 1 hour session give or take on Anglesey in the 1.5 last weekend. I got tired but the brakes carried on working.

Yellows all the way for me.
