Sorry PS3 boys but Sony have got many of the things you think are good, wrong.
And it's those reasons that make me carry on buying games for the 360 instead of the PS3.
Well said mate.![]()

But one thing I feel I need to say- saving games to the HDD is utterly useless.

I HATE that function on the PS3 and wish I could turn it off, permanently.![]()
It takes bloody ages and as far as I can tell has no benefit what so ever.![]()
And having the HDD built in on the PS3 sucks, be nice if you could remove it and plug it into another PS3- for instance if you have a game and have spent a while unlocking features then go round a mates with that game.
As it stands to do that you then have to wait 47 years for it to install and possibly update and you dont have you're saved features.

So you don't have a usb memory stick.

We've been through the benefits of an HDD many a time and it's getting a little tiresome covering the same ground.

HDD=superior, end of.

A few minutes to initially install and you're good to go, you're making issues about nothing.

I didnt say the HDD wasnt a good thing.

A few minutes?
It recently took me 1 hour 40 minutes to load and update GT5P

When I buy a game I just want to play it, not sit around all day waiting for it to do something I dont care about

As for the USB memory point.

Is it possible for me to save my game progress onto a portable memory card and then put it on another PS3?

So for example, I have done 3 classes on GT5 and also saved the game to the HDD and performed the latest update.

Cause the other day I had to take the game round to his, wait half hour while it installed then play it from scratch which was pants.

If it was the 360 I would have whipped off my HDD, put it on his and Roberts your mothers brother.

I do it with GH

Re: Ps3 keypad
Never tried it with GT5 so I can't answer that, suck it and see!
30 mins to install any game?!
Are you sure your HDD isn't faulty?
I don't recall ever having waited that long for an install
- plus the updates are usually very quick.
Are you using WiFi?
Do you have 2.4ghz equipment around interfering with your signal?
Something's not right with your setup by the sound of it.
If I go around a mate's place with a new game, we throw it in, let it install, get a beer, sit down
- ready to go.
No hardships going on!

Yes it's wireless, no I dont have anything to interfere with it and it took almost the exact same time to install on my mates PS3 a few days laters.

It took about the same for Uncharted

If you do an update on the 360 it takes seconds not minutes as well.

It took about the same for Uncharted& FOM to install too IIRC, and then there's the instal on demo's too.
It all just takes a f' lot longer than it needs to, and I cant see the benefit at the end of it.
If you do an update on the 360 it takes seconds not minutes as well.

The 360 system updates are definitely better for sure, they patch the system rather than downloading the entire firmware again.

I have Uncharted and FOM and honestly cannot recall much of a delay, I suppose it's possible I may have chucked the disk in and gone off elsewhere.

Actually, Sega's Dreamcast pioneered that, and the Japanese PS2s had online gaming.

The keypad for the PS3 looks wrong.

I have a keyboard for my PS3, from the PS2 Linux kit.

Re: Ps3 keypad
Define
"so much slicker"

Admittedly I have played all but 4 games on the PS3
(Uncharted, FOM, Stranglehold
& GT5) but they all still take time to load.
There's only a few seconds difference as far as I can tell between the PS3 and the 360

If it was possible to play the games direct from the HDD without the disc THAT would be a bonus as you could flick between games without p1$$ing about swapping discs.

They kept the cost of the PS2 down by supplying the network adapter separately, they didn't make the same mistake with PS3, also sensibly equipping it with wifi, as you'd expect with anything'next-gen'
- no point making people buy more bolt-ons for basic functionality.
Sony were there long before MS in the console market, you can't say they haven't pioneered anything, they definitely brought consoles to the living rooms more so than any other of the era.
Besides, haven't MS copied Sony's Home concept?

they hardly pioneered HDMI.

they didnt leave out the network adapter to keep the cost down.

thats why the first PSN was poo.

yea Sony were around way longer and look how far its got them? no where.

sony seems to look at specs.

cell

bluray

the whole console is bottle-knecked and the 360 actually has a better GPU.

Re: Ps3 keypad
To be fair to the PS3 keypad, the USB port on the controller is ontop which kind of dictated where the pad would go.

The 360 us below hence why it's there.

Possibly more luck on both MS and Sony's behalf as I doubt they thought when designing the pads that they'd have keyboard plug ins.

Re: Ps3 keypad
As it happens it didn't matter where the USB port was located on the controller, the keypad has its own bluetooth connection and its own battery, it's a completely separate entity from the joypad
(I think the MS one piggy backs the wireless connection)
- the shape of the controller dictated the location more than anything, between the handles wouldn't have worked as well as it does on the 360 controller
- PS3 one does look awkward in that position but it's surprisingly usable.
My old 3rd party keypad was in the same place and easy to use.

Re: Ps3 keypad
i seem to of missed half of this thread

the thing with the PS3 HDD installs is its not optional.

they had to do it because the bluray drive is too slow.

they havent done it to make the gaming experience
"slicker".

Re: Ps3 keypad
Well having both consoles I can say I simply cant tell the difference so for me it's just not
"slicker" in any way shape or form.

I have both consoles too, doesn't add any weight to either of our arguments!

- we'll never agree

From the actual perspective of gameplay on each console there is, IMO no difference, neither is better than the other.

All I'm saying is spending ages saving the game to the hdd IMO doesnt make the gameplay any smoother, slicker or what ever word you want to use than not saving it.

It would be nice to have the option of not doing it.

Re: Ps3 keypad
I always thought it was really cool how the Spectrum tape interface ran at a much higher rate than the C64.
Took WAY less time to load games than the crappy Commodore.
