D 406 UGP Mk 1 Rolling Shell - ideal basis for track car or for conversion

Post by dgh.mr2 »

Mark 1 JDM Supercharger model for sale as rolling shell.

Soon available - following swap of the sc engine to my race car - the well known ‘Super Nail’ road going/ track ready MR2. Ideal for track or road use and would be a great base for a V6 or 3SGTE conversion.

The car is a (rear) caged T Bar with electric folding mirrors, sc rear panel and engine cover, bronze tinted side windows etc. keyless entry etc. + has:

4 x new Team Dynamic Pro 1.2 7" x 15" alloys in black anthracite - custom made with correct offset and new Toyo 888s

new front wheel bearings

new front track rod ends

new engine torque mounts

new battery

new Sparco Alcantara steering wheel

Sony removable stereo

Carbotech brakes all round

Goodrich braided lines

Cusco master cylinder brace

Cusco camber adjustable top mounts (allowing more range than standard + easy to adjust and give a good, stiff platform to the strut)

Water injection tank and aquamist system (in place – rear trunk - not currently running but in the car)

Superflex Polybushes all round

High & Tight uprated front and rear anti-roll bars

And, best of all, a custom designed, made and fitted LEDA coilover suspension with Eibach springs, fitted, corner weighted and set up by LEDA themselves.

This gives absolutely excellent road holding and track ability but absorbs bumps etc. better than a typical Koni / 30% uprated springs job (as I’ve had on 3 cars including this initially) even with the stiffer rating springs due to the quality of the damping – damping is adjustable on car + both damping ratios and spring rates are able to be altered by LEDA et al to any preference.

Just been serviced and set up by “Mac 1 Motorsport” who have fitted a very discrete but strong 6 point rear roll cage. Hardly visible until you peer behind the seats but strong, safe and welded in to chassis points to increase torsional stiffness of shell

Bad points = though generally pretty good for rust with a good floor, front chassis and sills in good condition there are some spots over rear arches which will need fixing up - but don’t yet need replacement – plus some bubbling on the window surround and the T Bar roof leaks though I have a brand new set of T Bar seals that I haven’t had time to fit as yet.

Paint work looks good except for a few stone chips, minor swirls/ scratches as per usual for older cars + some.

Interior is standard with dash etc. complete but the carpet has been stripped out re. track work (though trim pieces, sound deadening material etc. are still in (could be re-carpetted easily)

Only reason for the sale is that I am using the expensive and newly re-built engine as the only sane (or allowed!) way to re-activate my fibreglass bodied race version which has too much invested in it to allow to languish + I can’t afford or justify two MR2s anymore.

Any inspection very welcome. Photos can be supplied via e-mail on request.

The car is the standard(?) dark, purpely blue - I don't know the name for sure but it looks more blue in daylight/sunlight, a rich blue when rained on and more purple in twilight or dull conditions!

Price is not given as I'm considering a couple of offers but as a ballpark figure I want as much back towards the engine install bill - estimated at c.£1200 + VAT - as possible.

If it sells with the wheels and tyres (cost over £700 and they have only done 70 miles!) then I don't want to just give it away. If a buyer wants to supply wheels and I retain these to sell on then I'll reduce expectations accordingly, assuming I might get back, say £300 for them?

I can't buy the whole motor but seeing that you could be interested in splitting the wheels.... I'd be interested in these. I could even bring some other wheels to swap them with :thumleft:

I could well be interested in that as it would then let me reduce the price and make the car more affordable to anyone interested in a shell (and who has their own wheels)

Given that they are effectively brand new - will have done c. 120 miles by the time the car gets to Rogue I'd be looking for £350 which is only around half their new cost when bought a couple of months ago

Potential price drop - if buyer wants to bring own wheels and swap over, leaving me the new Team Dynamic wheels and Toyo 888 tyres to sell on - I will reduce the 'wherabouts' asking price by £400 . . .

Failing a reasonably quick sale I'll break the car so the LEDA suspension, wheels, tyres, misc. body parts (e.g. sc engine cover and JDM rear panel, folding mirrors etc. will be available. Prefer not to but needs must.

I'll be interested in the LEDAs and possibly a couple of other odds and ends should you have to break it.
