Clutch Fluid Bleed - Where's the plug? Mk2 NA Rev1

Post by willies »

Stupid question possibly:

Where exactly is the bleed plug? The diagram I have isn't actually very clear as to *where* the plug is. Doesn't appear to be around the cylinder....or maybe I just can't see it.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Kelvyn

You need to be looking on the slave cylinder in the engine bay. You are looking for a bleed nipple much like a brake one only a bit smaller. Just above the flexi pipe. Opposite end to the heat shield.

my '2s an NA. Do they have a different clutch system to the turbo?
I'm about to give up as I can't see anything that resembles the BGB picture.

Going back outside to have another go......

If I don't get this sorted, then I'll be crossing my fingers as I'm driving to Leeds tomorrow (from London area).

In desperation now, I have uploaded three pics:

http://www.kingside.co.uk/mr2/dsc00965.jpg

(They're 2mb each, apologies in advance)

If anyone is kind enough to ring the slave cylinder or draw a big arrow for dufus me, I would HUGELY appreciate it. And if they come to the IMOC-CHAT beers in London next month I will buy muchos beers for them. :)

Thanks

AFAIK (and i have to go by where it is on the MK1) you need to get underneath the car to get to it.

Jack the car up put some axle stands under it then get underneath in on the n/side just in the corner by the passenger bulkhead you should see some pipes. One of those has a bleed nipple on it.

You will need someone to pump the clutch for you ideally.

NB: this is on a MK1, i don't know about the MK2, it may be the same but i could of course be wrong.

Not sure if you've sorted this yet, and I dont know how to put up pictures but if you look at your first picture ----963.JPG you will see the exhaust heat shield (got a red hand with cross on it). Just to the left of that you see another silvery heat shield, a small one. On your picture its more or less in a line with the hand. Next you will see 2 pipes that cross over and are then held with a clamp plate. These pipes then turn and drop out of sight, well down there a little way is where you want to be. I'm inclined to agree with Lauren that you'll need to be under the car and you'll most likely need to remove one of the undertrays.
when you get to see it from underneath you should see where the flexi pipe connects, between that and the ends of the two pipes you should find the bleed nipple. Good luck.

Here's a pic of where I believe it is, may get round to bleeding it soon...

It's just infront of the gearbox (of which mine has oil all around the fill hole  ), can probably get to it without jacking the car up :)
