ABS Trouble

Post by project7 »

Whilst driving home from work last week my ABS light came on, and the diagnostics point towards a Faulty ECU.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram, or inspection checklist for the ABS system found in a '95 UK Car. Unfortunately the ones on the MR2-tech.com website do not seem to match my system.

I would really like to confirm if it is an ECU problem or not , before i visit Mr.T's spares department

Thanks for your help

What code are you getting from the ECU?

Hi Paul,

With the terminals connected, the light remains on with no flashes which according to this is an ECU fault.

I'm just hoping the error codes have changed with the later ABS system, or it's one of the relays supplying power to the ECU.

That sounds like its not hooked up correctly. Its unlikely that the ecu went just like that. Not saying its not possible, but I would first give the paperclip a little wiggle and make sure that it is connected correctly. If there is no error codes stored it will flash constantly.

Im pretty sure the connection is ok, as i can get the Power Steering light to flash.

Its unlikely that the ecu went just like that.

Yeah, thats what I thought, Japanese cars are fairly bulletproof in the electronics department.

just to confirm - you are bridging TE1 and E1??

I very much doubt your car would still run if it was at fault.

Paul.

No, I'm bridging Tc and E1 to test the ABS ECU

Its the ABS ECU that i think has failed.

Don't know about the mr2, but I had my abs go down on a mazda mx3. It turned out to be the actual gear ring (Thingy) that sits on the hub/driveshaft. It had just come loose and needed putting back on. 10 second job!!

Also had the same thing on a Renault, the gear ring thingy had broken into pieces  Thats french cars for you!!

In both cases the abs warning light came on and stayed on.
