Removing Carbotech XP8 brake residue from wheels...

Post by Icsunonove »

....will anything shift it? ](*,)

I've tried pressure washer with detergent, brake cleaner, carb cleaner, metal polish with a dremel buffing wheel and now a brillo pad with boiling hot soapy water. Nothing seems to touch it. Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I've heard good things about oven-cleaner... but it *may* be abrasive to the point of damaging the wheels themselves. May be worth a try, but proceed with caution! Perhaps try a section of the inner rim first?

My friend swears by Rimwax, but thats a preventative rather than a remover.

We used to get it off okay with Wurth Brake Cleaner, but we got sick of cleaning wheels (12 race cars, 2 sets of wheels per car = 96 wheels) so we got around the issue by painting them all black!

That's exactly why I painted mine
The dust wasn't a problem to get off, just it looked bad after just a few days (Carbotech Panther+/AX6).
I'd be a bit cautious of brake cleaner, the wife used some on her painted wheels, and it did bad stuff to the paint #-o

I find wonder wheels (the brush-on stuff) usually works... although when i used it with a brillo pad it looked like i'd used wire wool

i know it sounds like it totally wouldnt work, but get a good citrus based cleaning agent on it! you can never underestimate the things citrus can shift. ive used it before on things that brake cleaner, jizer, acetone, etc couldnt shift and its just fallen off once it gets a whiff of the awesome orange smell :D
