Why did you not just send it back to MS?

*EDIT* Ah, because you've got a dodgy box. I remember now. One of the benefits of being then...

ive sent back plenty of dodgy boxes so that doesnt matter..
i did it because it was second hand and had already been sent off to ms by the original owner (dont no who it was i brought it from game) so ms wanted 60 quid to fix it. so not everything is releated to having a flashed box lol

@thai
dont no what it does 100%, but what ever it does it works. i towl tricked the xbox 6 or 7 times to a point where the towel trick no longer works. done this penny thing and its worked a charm.
basically u take apart the 360, and removet he mobo, on the back of the mobo (mother board) there are 4 small chips near the x shaped clamps they all have a stickey white pad on them, then all u do is tape 2 pennies together which electritians tape making sure u cant see any of the coin sticking out, then stick them to the 4 pads, 2 pennies to each pad. screw it all back together plug it in turn it on and hey presto.

I did it to my first 360 about a week before MS made the 3 year warranty announcement  I bought an elite last xmas so gave it to my mate, whilst i had it it worked perfectly, since he's had it he's had to towel it occasionally, he says tho after he does the towel trick it'll work perfectly for at least 4 or 5 days again no problem, then maybe need the towel :thumleft:

Putting pennies on the RAM is just creating a larger heatsink for them, to remove some of the heat that builds up. Unfortunately it'll still end up inside the case and I always thought it was the CPU and/or GPU that overheated, not the RAM?

I have no problem with scots, I just dont believe in "british" and I dont support them at Sport.

Scots to me are like French, Italians, Germams etc. Just other people from another country.

I think you're artificially limiting yourself there, and should take a leaf from the Scots in the lowlands - where merely being from the next TOWN is a reason to kick off.

You wanna watch Hertfordshire VERY carefully.

Gotta say, I'd probably mess up your perceptions somewhat. Scottish name, English birth, "European" genetics (German, Swedish, Welsh, English AND Scottish if you go back far enough) and related to the Duke of Wellington apparently (I'm not the one in the family with the big ol' chart).

They're all arbitrary boundaries. Location is a very silly reason to discriminate (in the most literal sense).

People really have taken my comments the wrong way.

I havent once said I dont like Scots. Or Irish. Or Welsh.

All I said is I'm none of them, I'm English. So is Hamilton.

Every man woman and child in England probably has foreign links, Romans, saxons the lot. It's a mixed up country.

To be English you have to be born here, raised here. Simple as. Same as being Scotish, Welsh or Irish.

So to me, the country you were born and raised in, and the one (not all) you feel is your own is YOUR country.

Any way, it's probably best this stops now, if people want to continue it there's a thread in off topic.

From memory i do believe it's the gpu that the pennies are stuck to, not really a case of removing the heat, they just hold the gpu firmly in place when the board warps, at least that's how i think it works :?

That can create issues tho matt, i was born in NI, moved to england when i was 9 months, raised there til i was 13 then moved back to NI, what am I? :-k My formative years were english, yet iwas born and now live in NI...

as richardk says, boundaries are a crap way to define things, maybe my experience has formed my view of things nowadays, if i meet somebody abroad from NI i feel no closer to them than anybody else from anywhere else, they're still a stranger to me no matter where they were born/raised, ie i'd rather hang around with a sound english/welsh/scottish/anywhere person than a tool from NI :thumleft: In the case of hamilton, if Irvine had've won the title that year it wouldn't have made a button of difference to me where he was from, in contrast tho i'm glad george best was from here, but that's more a personality quirk than an achievement thing

interesting... i have only ever performed the towel trick once and it hasnt misbehaved since. I have read that repeated attempts at the towel tricl or overheating for too long can lead to the video card failing permanently so if mine dies again I will try this one.

Let us know if it dies again after this recovery method.....

All it does is raise the board enough for the heated contacts to touch properly again. Still clever.

I did this in the good old days with my dreamcast by bending the pins back on the power unit on the main board. worked a treat
