[Mk2] [Turbo] Fitting 4 Point Harnesses

Post by Tim_GTS »

Hello guys and gals,

I was hoping someone could help me out. I currently ahve bucket seats fitted in my car and have the 4 point harnesses to go with them.
I have taken it to my local garage and he has said that although I have a spreader plate to lighten the load he is concerned about the "Machine Spot Welds" as they may not be strong enough to cope with the impact of a crash.

Obviously he doesnt want the conscience if something bad was to happen, So I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to how they have their harnesses fitted...wether it be through the bulk head or another method.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

i think the safest way for harnesses is actually to have fitted a harness bar that runs along the back of the seats that uses existing hardpoints.

I believe there are many ppl doing it using spreader plates on the back of the firewall.

Im currently in the same process of fitting bucket seats that require 4 point harnesses.. I am going to have a "harness bar" constructed tho to allow safe harness angle and reduce the likelyhood of any MOT failure.

So anyone with some proper advice please add your 2p cos i need to know tooooooo :p

mr2 has a double skinned firewall between the cabin and the engine bay, with a spreader plate its more than capable of taking the load

My last mr2 had harness loops welded behind the seat on the fire wall using a load spreading plate, it`ll break your bones before it breaks the welds.

P.s they where seam welded

But i hope you`ll never have to find that out, drive safely m8 :thumleft:
