I have a rev 2 turbo , currently running 10W40 Semi-Synth for the last 4years. It does have the odd small oil leak , what would you recommend and how much should i get?
1BAR ct20b turbo
Thankyou
Not track days , but driven hard numorus times
Stick with 10w40 mate. It seems to be the best all round grade for turbo's. My engine's been run on this since the import and it runs smoothly and hardly uses any oil.
true,
but semi synthetic oil (mineral oil that has been enhanced) can cope with these temperatues.
Reading labels, they all state they can cope with modern, turbo charged performance engines.
And after all, I amongst others posting here use semi synth oil, and my turbo has not yet seized. And buying £10 per litre fully synth only to dump it out every 6 months is just a waste in my opinion...
my 2p
avoid mineral oil though

Toyota recomend Semi Synthetic and as previously stated its quite exspensive to be dropping it every 5k/6 months.
also using CAPS LOCK people think your SHOUTING
Interesting , i decided to check around and found people using so many different types of oil its a little tedious. I was going to use 10W50 fully synth , but now i read i should just use semi synth... Perhaps i should change to 10W50 Semi?
Just read this which was very interesting http://wikilec.9600.org/index.php/Engine_oil, think i'll try 10w50 and let people know how i get on.
Thanks everyone for all your replies
I'm sure 10w50 will be fine. The 50 figure just means that the oil can withstand higher oil temperatures before it starts to break down but it's unlikely temperatures will get that high anyway unless you run very high boost or do trackdays.
the 50 figure is a measure of the viscosity of the oil at operating temperature.
you should use whatever grade maintains correct pressure (approx 10psi per 1000rpm)
