[Mk2] [Generic] FAO those with Border bonnets

Post by RANDOMr2 »

Hi,

I have a border bonnet. At the moment instead of just taking out the plastic slam panel and revealing a rusty top on my rad I have cut vents in it so the vented bonnet can still do it's job and allow the flow of air through the border bonnet, through the rad and out the vented bonnet.

My question though...Has anyone found anyone who makes a vented slam panel for the mk2 MR2 out of ally or fibreglass or some other material?

If not I think I'll have a go at it out of fibreglass - the heat will be fine :thumleft:

To be honest I've just got the front of the panel fitted (to drain water off the body etc) and the rear half removed, seems to work just fine for me, If you find a vented Item post it up tho! :thumleft:

I know RHDjapan do a St steel one but not sure if it's vented or not...

Ahh...cheers for the link.

I think I'll have a go at moulding one out of fibreglass and see how I get on. Until then the vented plastic one will do :thumleft:

I've decided to leave mine open.

Got a ally rad to bling it up abit and also going to refurb the holders.

Remember folks, the border bonnet & removal of that panel are meant to be used in conjunction with a border radiator relocation kit, to change the angle of the radiator. Otherwise I would expect normal airflow whilst driving to still send the air under the car.

Thats true but removing the slam panel does let a fair amount of heat out :thumleft: Could always take a stock slam panel and drill it full of holes I suppose? :-k
