My 5th MR2, my dream spec

Post by Peter C »

Despite loving my Rev 1 Coupe, I twitched each time a Rev 3/4 drove by (I'm not keen on the Rev 5 rear spoiler and alloys). I kept an eye on EBay and bagged a bargain last night.

It's my dream spec - Rev 3, red, tin top and automatic. Here's some pics:

A JVC head unit aside, it's completely standard and it's staying that way. It's in good condition, with 62k miles on the clock, there's plenty of life left in it.

My front drive is starting to look like Arthur Daley's used car lot, so the Coupe will be offered for sale within the next couple of days. Any fancy a cheap and tidy Coupe?

Looks a very clean, standard and tidy car. How do you find it compared to the rev1? Just out of interest over how many years have you owned the 5 MRs and what variations have you had?

6 years ago I bought G905APB and kept it for 5 years. Selling it was a huge mistake.

About 12 months into the ownership of my Rev 1, I bought a Rev2 G-Limited, non runner - knackered engine, and sold it after removing a few bits.

I replaced with my Rev 1 with an NA, UK spec Rev 3. I loved the looks, especially as the car was white and thought that the power assisted steering was a huge improvement over the Rev 1 manual rack. The car was mint and looked even better with a -40mm Tein drop and a set of Wolfrace 5 spoke 17s. However, the ride became too firm and I soon got bored of the car. Despite being a minter, I ended up selling it within 3 months.

Fast forward to August 2008, I bought a Rev 1 Coupe, which I loved to bits and spent countless hours fiddling with. I planned to keep the Coupe for a while, but the Rev 3 auto came up and I had to have it.

The Rev 3 G-Limited is a joy to drive, it fulfills my every requirement and it's a keeper!

Looks a nice car Peter, we'll have to arrange that shoot. I've seen the new owner of G905 APB post on here with the autocar front cover of the car as his signature. Would you swap the new rev3 for APB back I wonder?
Any intentions to mod this one and what do you think of mine with the Teins on?.....I think retaining 15s has kept the ride everyday usable (have to take you out for a spin on the shoot)... you put them on with 17s didn't you?

I'm not sure I would want to swap the Rev3 for old APB. The Rev 3 is in far superior condition and the auto box and PAS make for a much nicer drive. Rev 1s would be much nicer if they had PAS.

I'm keeping the Rev 3 standard. I like it the way it is.

I like the look of a -40mm drop but I'm not willing to up with the ride quality. Stick with your 15s, the car looks great. My old white Rev3 was rollin' on 17s with a Tein -40mm drop and it was a nightmare to drive on anything other than perfect asphalt.

I have a "normal" car for day to day stuff and I won't be using the MR2 in bad weather, but you never know, our paths might cross!
