The whole concept was bend it mend it tho, so if I had it for 3 years and it rotted in that time it would be my responsibility to fix. not to mention the amount of times it was crashed (and lauren drove into it  )

The gearbox and engine blowing was through use, therefore should have been replaced under the same concept.

I've just had a similar discussion with Phil re the bend it mend it agreement. And we agree totally with you.

At the end of the day, as has been mentioned, even if it's a breaker, it still has some value in the specific race parts it has, (I'm already interested in the cage!).

Anyway, I keep saying this but it will be brought up at the AGM. I will update Stuart with some comments from here though.

Well myself and Joanne have just got back from the AGM at Gaydon, 420 mile round trip, Jo's MK1 was a pleasure to drive, it's always better driving someone elses car don't you think!
I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, we made a weekend of it and stayed in a beautiful village called Dunchurch, met up with Wayne and Pete and had a few scoops and a nice meal, even if they did bring the main course before the starters, must be a Warwick thing!
The Heritage Museum is a brilliant venue to hold the meeting although I'm extremely excited of the prospect of having next years AGM in a pub :thumleft: with a gala dinner in the evening, stop over and AGM on the Sunday, makes it more worth while.
What a really productve AGM, yea it wasn't packed to the hilt with members but it didn't matter there was enough loyalty, enthusiasm and passion in that room to make a huge difference to our brilliant club. I really do feel the day was so productive and hopefully a turning point for us, I can't wait to see the new website later in the year, it sounds like its going to be amazing and just what we need, we are hoping that it will be live by the end of 2008.
Huge round of applause to Deb who is now officially our national events manager, overseeing and managng our area organisers, excellent stuff and thanks for taking up the challenge, you will be fantastic!
Also Wayne Duncan has joined the board of committee as Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator, this is a seriously exciting role and if I know Wayne and what he proposes to do we are going to see something really special.
It was also great to meet Richard who had some exciting information on the regalia and is now in charge of all our clothing and promotional merchandise, cheers Rich.
Special thanks to George who has volunteered to become the area organiser for the South Central region, George has some exciting and engaging ideas on how to move the club forward in that part of the UK, thanks again George.
Everyone who attended ( and some that couldn't be there on the day ) contributed and came up with some great ways on how to bring the club back to life, lets all now stay positive, pull together, work hard, contribute and continue to promote the club to our members at every opportunity.

Thanks personally to everyone for a great day and to our Chairman Stuart who remained extremely professional and composed throughout the day, Stuart does a lot of work behind the scenes that we don't always see and I know he put a lot of effort into this years AGM.

See you at next years AGM on October 11th

Yep i have to agree, it was a long meeting, but an extreamely productive one, just glad so much got sorted :thumleft: i personally am thrilled that my proposal of a mk1 club Publicity officer to raise awareness of the club & the mk1 mr2 was met with real enthusism & more to the point that Wayne grasped the role with both arms & has taken the role on, Top man Wayne \:D/ :thumleft: .Im also thrilled that Deb has taken on the role of National events co ordinator, im sure her experience will be an asset to the club & its members  :thumleft: , i also echo Mikes comments on George who is a reletively new member, yet willing to take on the task of south central region area organiser, just what the club needs  :thumleft: again, great to see those who really care about your club dedicate time, effort & money into ensuring its future :thumleft: , Jinxy

Excellent day, no, excellent weekend actually!

Another good Mk1 Club "doo" topped off by a really constructive meeting.

Am pleased and excited to take on a public relations role, sales and marketing in my language - personally, these things are of genuine interest to me so will be good experience for me and also beneficial to the club - win win!

I have already set the ball rolling this evening on some of the things I plan to do - but there is a long way to go yet!

3 key things I will be looking at:

Increasing the membership numbers.
Providing genuine answers to the question "what do I get for my membership fee"
Generally raising awareness of the Mk1 MR2.

If anyone happens to have any suggestions, ideas or can see any "quick wins" let me know - am open to all feedback!

The future is bright, the future is the Mk1 Club!

yes a long meeting but a productive one. if all that was discussed can be put into place we have an exciting few years ahead of us.
lets now grasp this and put some effort into helping our volunteer committee members meet the challenge. its up to us as the club members to make it happen. with a new event coordinator, merchandiser and publicity officer we will have a renewed enthusiasm. with a web site up and running issues with membership, contact details and subscriptions should be a thing of the past. we can once again have a mk1 focused web site and club, a regained identity. well done to everyone for their ideas and a big round of applause to all who stepped up for the new positions. i look forward to a packed diary next year.

Wayne,

What is your oficial title going to be, Public Relations and Marketing Manager sounds about right to me.

Just a couple of thoughts I've had in response to what do I get for my membership, some were discused at AGM:

Engaging, modern, exciting, easy to use and functional website.

Tailored classic car insurance scheme.

Access to local Club Co-Ordinators.

Agreed discount's at TOYOTA throughout the UK.

Agreed discount's at various motor factors, Motorworld, Halford's, etc, the list is endless with this one, put some pressure on the AO ( Area Organisers ) to look into this in their regions.

Discount's to top National motorsports events, definately the MK1 racing series and MR2 challenge.

Opportunity to attend the Club's National get-together at Billing.

Opportunity to attend Natonal AGM.

Access to MK1 Club regalia.

Access to revamped website and technical areas. Opportunity to post questions.

Members welcome joining pack consisting of , new revamped Club card, latest magazine, club tax disc, MR2 Mk1 Club sticker, invitation to JAE and Billing National meet. Would be nice to have all this in a nice A4 sized pack. John light did some superb examples of this, I think I still have his prototype of this somewhere.

Club sponsored MK1 challenge car, we need to get involved in the MK1 racing series somehow, can't we sponsor the whole series? Did you know Motors TV are fully covering it next year, I wonder if they would need a presenter to cover the event ( Mmmmmm wonder who could do that! )

Definatelty need a Christmas party for 2009, something Deb will be able to get cracking on.

If you look at all the above would you pay £20 to have it, I certainly would.

Will keep the ideas coming, you get cracking :thumleft:

I doubt the MK1 Club have several grand to sponsor a whole series...and they'd have to pick from the TWO available as they could loose out.

maybe not the series but a couple of the cars. a winning car with our logo would be reported as much as the series.
what about the AA or RAC for discount ?

Yep great idea Kev :thumleft:
As to Waynes official club title its club "Publicity officer" i spoke briefly regarding some things that a publicity needs to take on board, one being as much publicity & club awareness in the classic car mags as possible, Practical Classics regulaly do a full restoration Month by Month on various cars, maybe they can do one for the MK1 & wayne could put them in touch with a cheap mk1 that would fit the bill :thumleft: . We also need to get the cars featured more on the T.V, Heartbeat has covered the 60's & now the begining of the 70's, over the last year or two the "Life on Mars" 1970's retro series was a huge sucess & with the interest in the 1980's coming around again it wont be long before we see interest in this era, especially as its famous for yuppies who had huge Mobile phones & drove around in MK1 mr2,s, so these t.v program making companies need to be given a pack of some sort containg pictures, location & info on available members cars for filming, i have some background on this & the beauty of it is the cars dont have to be mint, just good looking condition, in fact cars that turn up in stunning condition are often dressed down a bit using a synthetic dirt spray to make them look slightly dirty & realistic.
Wayne dont think im trying to orgaise you mate, just a few tips to get you started, you tailor the role the way you want to & make it your own :thumleft: \:D/ , Jinxy

Depending on the discount offered by some of these national chains, AA RAC Halfords etc etc, does anyone think it'd be worth offering a few square inches of mag space as incentive. Otherwise it'll be an uphill sell for Wayne.

We can't afford to lose pages (well, actually with current submissions we could  ) but it might help.

just a thought.

Spot on gents - thanks for all the feedback so far!

Karl, yes, I think magazine space would be an excellent incentive.

Halfords and the AA (not alcoholics anonymous!!!) is an excellent idea - another couple for the list.

I better stop typing on this forum and start writing some letters!!!

:D
