Failed MOT!!! Arghh!

Failed on emmisions. I had a suspicion she needed a bit of a tune up but now i know she needs a tune up!
Passed on everything except for the CO level and HC level.

Maximum for a non-cat test on a 94 import turbo should be 3.50% but mine came out at 4.63%

Maximum HC level should of been 1200ppm but mine came out at 1907ppm.

After it failed the first time took her for a quick blast round the block to see if that made a difference, if anything it made it worse.

So, its off to the garage i go.....

I never noticed I never had side repeaters. Jap imports dont have them. But is their any thing i can do not to drill a hole in my car? And if i have to can i Fit them my self or this a garage thing.

I know it's not much help but my n/a passed the other week, Co was 0.25 . The thing is i thought it smelt a bit rich, when reversing and you get a wiff

I thought due to them been an import and from factory not having side repeaters.... its okies?

its like the landrovers which have HID. HID is actually illegal if you fit them to your car as an after market part. if there factory fitted then there legal LOL.

That's riduculous! How many people on here have had their Jap import pass an MOT without seperate side repeaters? LOADS!!!!

AFAIK it's not exact position of the light that's necessary, it's the ability to see the light from the right angle - which you can with the toblerones.

You need to dispute this otherwise you've got fit some UK lights or equivalent. You can do this yourself or get another garage or whoever to do it, but I don't think you should have to.

Yes they do. Do you actually have the toblerones still? Some people remove them (both here and in Japan) but don't replace them with anything else... From memory SteveO-2007 doesn't have any, don't think he's ever had a problem.

The lambda sensor was mentioned as a possible cause for the excessive readings. Am off on holiday in a weeks time so am going to leave it with the garage to get it sorted for me. Looks like a re-map may be in order. Need one anyway since installing my new exhaust at the beginning of the year.

these went over the car well, I got pulled on a few other things as well

1. main lights off target left was pointing down driver side was pointing to the right

2. missing a bolt on a seat belt clip

3. My horn didnt work

4.Side repeaters was the main one...

5. My front number plate wasnt attached to my bumper correctly either..

I have a front border bumper guys were would you put a the V.R.M. He said it should be as vertical as possible Hes idear is just to fix it on the bumper but is looks absoulty shocking....

So can you post some pics were you have got your placed so i dont muck up my bumper..

Heh I failed my last MOT for the horn not working. Turned out I'd forgotten to reconnect the earth having taken the front bumper off.

mattcambs> His car doesn't have toblerones. Most people's import cars keep the toblerones, which *do* count as side repeaters. People who do take the toblerones off tend to fit UK spec repeaters.

All sorted. Sailed through the MOT after the recent work at Kai Performance.
0.242% on CO and 172ppm on HC

Bah, mine failed yesterday Failed on HIDs, fuel leak (bu88ered fuel filter) and both front brake hoses perished.

We traced the fault after trying EVERYTHING (Map sensor, vac blockages, vac leaks, inlet manifold, turbo blowing, 02 sensor, boost leaks) you name it we tried it.

We then looked at the PFC and changes several settings and then changed them back until we advanced the timing and BINGO !

We advanced it 30 DEGREES which pointed to the cam belt being out.

We then checked the timing and the Exhaust Cam was one tooth out.

We retimed it and it is like a different car......
