[All] [Generic] Why do N/A exhausts sound better than turbo's?

Post by Razor04 »

Always wondered why n/a cars like hondas etc seem to have a great exhaust note whereas the sound of a turbo exhaust seems to be a bit muffled. whats the explanation for this? :thumleft:

Are you on about standard exhausts?? Or aftermarket ones??

Because the exhaust turbine converts sound energy into heat and kinetic energy. There is physically less energy in the exhaust gas once it gets passed the turbo.

Basicly, its because of the turbo. Its a restriction in the exhaust and it makes the sound different.

I used to love the sound of my old prelude vtec, but I also love the sound of the turbo whooshing :)

That thing is loud! I remember the first time I was in that car accompanying Peter to collect some parts and I was half expecting those OAP pedestrians we kept passing by to keel over from a heart attack or something
