Car Cover Help

Post by tom_snelling »

Evening all,

Having searched and found nothing (its useless isnt it!), I thought I would post up.

I need a waterproof car cover for the winter months, any reccommendations in the community?

Thanks for the help,

Tom

Tyvek covers are waterproof, breathable and are about 60 GBP from Halfrauds,

Or you could go the custom made route at around 2-3 hundred pounds :D

One thing to be aware off is if the car is parked in a windy area there is a fair chance the wind will get under the cover and rub / scratch against your paint work. I learned the hard way despite it being elasticated and 2 straps
Then again I am in Scotland!

Yup - if you look at the third thread linked by Cartledge, I've said the same too (about the paint rubbing and coming off). At first I just ignored it as it wasn't bad, but then some really bad wind one day and suddenly the inside of the cover was very red.
So the cover comes off when it's windy (the wind should dry off any sitting water anyway) and goes on when it's not. I'd rather have to wash the car more often than have (more) bits where the paint has been rubbed right down.
BTW: I got my Tyvek cover for £30 from Halfords. Probably wrong time of year for a bargain on a cover though...

Edit to add:

Don't know why so many people have a problem with it - It's fine. You've just got to select "Search for all terms" radio button and it'll behave properly! I'd do a how-to for it in the sticky at the top of the Mk1 section, but I get a feeling no one reads that anymore...

I always used to buy my covers (bikes and cars) from a place called classic additions, they were always really good quality products. Have a look...
