[Mk2] [Turbo] Changing the Anti Roll Bars and bushes

Post by Caribbean_Blue »

Has anyone changed the Anti Roll bars and bushes for front and back on there motor?

How long did it take? How hard? Did you have to drop the rear sub frame?

You dont need to touch your droplinks to do the front ARBs - jack car up so both wheel are clear of the ground then just loosen off the nut and bolt holding the bracket that is around the bush itself then lever the roll bar just enough to pull the bush out then just reverse operation to replace. repeat for other side

Make sure you have new drop links if you are changing the ARB they are a pig to undo, when i fitted my coilovers I ended up cutting the bolts and driving without drop links for a week #-o

He's right you know...

I do also loosen the 3 engine mount bolts midway along the cross member too.. and if it help to pull the member towards the ground, the exhaust mount above (2 bolts) as well. You should get away with just the 4 bolts though..

Just noticed that my rear anti roll bar is fouling on the chassis either side(Near the bends at either end) - It appears that the ARB is able to slide throught the bushes either way(depending on which way you corner. I had new poly bushes fitted, and yes i checked they are holding the bar tight, but on taking tight corners i can hear the anti roll bar hitting the chassis(a knocking noise).

So, i bought some ST ARBs and fitted them yesterday, again checked the bushes are gripping it tight, but still i can hear a clonk as i turn in to a tight corner at speed.

Anyone else come accrosss this problem? And how can i remedy it? I thought of maybe zip tying some foam(for pipe insulation) around the bends to at least stop it hitting the chassis - dnt know whether this will work?
