I normally use 10w40 Shell Helix synthetic. I've heard the only difference between this and fully synthetic is that 10w40 has to be changed every 5k instead of 10k but this is no problem as the car has been fine with this all the time that I have had it, don't want to risk mixing it. I would use another brand other than Shell if it's cheaper, but I don't want to compromise on quality. You get a discount if you're a premium member. The previous owner of mine always used Shell Helix Plus 10w40 so I've continued with it. I change it every 4-5k miles. Engine still runs nice and smooth after 90k miles. I know it's not exactly cheap at £25 odd but it's good quality oil. But I reckon oilman might be able to supply it cheaper than my local Shell station so it might end up been just as cheap.
