Just been having a quick read through this post.... nice rev1 you have there Woolhead... rev1s all the way. Looks completely standard, is it? If you ever consider a bit of lowering let me know. I've just taken some fensport springs off of my rev1 ...... check 'for sale' if you're interested.
Good job on the polishing, it's made quite a difference & welcome to the wonderful world of IMOC!

PS. I lived in Godmanchester for about 12yrs until about 9 mths ago. There's a good crowd of owners roundabouts there and they used to run regular meets in Cambridge... maybe check the events section and see if they're still going.....

Hey again.
The springs give a 30mm drop mate... check out the fensport website if you want some more info and let me know if you're interested. I'm often still up your way when I go and visit the olds if you want 'em.
You planning any other mods for the future beyond springs/wheels?

Yeah mate, they're OK with standard shocks (so long as they're not on the way out already). It's a firm ride but certainly not unacceptable (mine was a daily driver for the 2yrs I had them on... still is actually). Don't bother with rev3 lights 'cos they look better with the rev1/2 ones and if you're planning an engine change I'd hold off on the exhaust also. I've just replaced stuff as it's been needed rather than changing for the sake of change but then I have had mine for over 9yrs now!
If you want the springs let me know as I'm up your way every fortnight or so, might even be up sometime this week.

depends on the condition of the paintwork really . the last time i did the full monty was in april. i and wash n wax it regular (once a week) keeps it up to standard so to speak. if your paintwork is full of swirl marks / scuffs etc then you may need to buff it using g3 buffing compound ( with a little water :-$ ) the next stage i do would be to use 3m finesse it using a slightly softer polishing mop. next stage would be to use 3m machine glaze , using a soft polishing sponge mop. once you have reached this stage , then apply a quality wax ! not this poo wipe on wipe off stuff either  wax is called wax for a reason yeah ! there are to many water base waxes on the market which work , but dont last very long and dont really put a protective skin over your paintwork. i know alot of folk say its great but it really doesnt last long at all. there are so many methods you can do but working in a paint shop i have access to quality paintwork glaze, compound, machine polish etc. and i know what lasts . once you have achieved a nice finish all over, the wax you apply is most important . going off my experience ive seen alot of new wax'es appear etc but if you want your paintwork to last use a simoniz base wax or autosmart Carnauba Gold. the pics above i posted of my car i just wash n waxed it , leathered it dry and used carnauba gold. i used a few black rubber treatment products , glass cleaner etc and thats it. i guess i have waxed my car 3 times since april .

we all started at the same point m8 ! experience is priceless , and we all make mistakes but learning from them is the key.

would you rate meguirs wax you asked ! its very good but not my choice. its easy on and easy off and gives a glossy shine . i have found in the past meguirs is good on a healthy paint surface ! free from scratches , swirl marks etc. but its longevity is questionable.
