Performance Day @ Millbrook - 18th October 2008

Post by helencooke01 »

Hi all,

Myself and some friends are arranging a Performance Event day at Millbrook, Bedfordshire, on Saturday 18th October.

I've copied and pasted details of the day below -

_____________________________________________

Only £280 per participant held at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, one of the best facilities in Europe!

Participants will be divided up into groups of 4 and will undertake a mixture of activities with a highly qualified instructor using the facilities detailed below;

• High speed bowl: High speed driving, emergency lane change exercise
• Handling circuits: Cornering techniques, Over grip limit handling, trail braking and much more
• Alpine / Hill route: The best place to put together everything to develop a swift – smooth – safe progressive flowing drive on Millbrooks Alpine style 7km one way road
• Mile straight: A great place to look at ABS – Traction control – ESP
• Steering pad: A great place to look steering and braking techniques

The day will end with a Time Trial gymkhana style competition using one of Roadcraft’s track prepared cars, which will allow participants to put into practice all the new techniques learnt during the day followed by a presentation and prize giving. All participants will receive a certificate.

Participants and guests will also have the opportunity to experience high speed demonstration drives, this is your chance to see some of the Performance driving techniques you have learnt throughout the day being used at speed. This will be carried out using the Alpine route and Handling circuit given by one of the Instructors using Roadcraft’s own training car.

Registration 8.30am and the events will run from 9am to 5.30pm. A buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Optional Extra’s
At an additional cost you have the opportunity to include Skid Control as one of the activities during the day, using Millbrooks state of the art Skid control cars. These cars are equipped with the Swedish style skid cradles, with this we can simulate all weather / road conditions and coach the drivers on how to spot and avoid skidding situations, with these we can show Front and Rear wheel drive cars.

Other Courses Available Advanced – Performance (Road & Track) – Events (Isle of Mann & Nurburgring) – Fleet Training – Blue Light/Rapid Response – First Drive (Under 17’s)

______________________________________________________

At the moment we have 7 people for this, so there are 5 spaces.

There is a £50 booking fee and then payment in full has to be made 2 weeks before.

The website of the company running the day is www.roadcraft-driving.com

If anyone's interested please let me know!

No one interested in this at all?

Any feedback on why? Is it too expensive or too short notice...?

It's quite expensive. Also it is a AIM/ROSPA type training day, not track driving tuition as such.

Plus its not in your own car from what I can tell.

I think though that considering you have only posted it up a few days ago, you need to give people a little longer to respond.

It's definitely in your own car. The only thing that isn't is the gymkhana at the end and the skidpan (if anyone chooses to do that).

Thanks though, will wait and see if anyone is interested :thumleft:

It looks good fun, I need to see if I can get my suspension sorted for that date.

Due to a lack of any concrete interest it looks like we're going to have to cancel this.

Will update as soon as I know for certain.

There was some talk about this kind of event after the Woodbridge trackday Today.

I think the main area of interest was the Skidpan, and in particular tuition and being able to drive your own car on the Skidpan. Is that an option with this event, or should we talk to them about arranging a dedicated event?

cost would need to be fairly cheap - ie a lot less than a trackday.

so say a cheap track/airfield day (full day of driving) costs £100-120, the value for money activity day needs to be £50 or less IMO.

Maybe as well as a skidpan there could be a handling course or a short sprint or suchlike. maybe a 0-60 run or something to keep the power boys happy.

shame the day in the thread didn't take off, but i guess price was an issue

Hi Ben

Sorry no the skidpan was optional and would have been in a specially prepped car, i.e. not your own... sadly we've had to cancel though as obviously it was too expensive - we posted on about 7 forums and got no real interest!!

We're now planning on just paying for the instructor to come on a track day with us and split him between 4 of us for the day :thumleft:
