You mean if the 4 pistons have the same diameter as the stock 2 pistons? But then you're surely applying just as much clamping force, just spread across more pistons? Can't see that being a benefit from where I'm sat.

You use a caliper with a larger pad area which means less pedal effort for the same effect also the pads are usually much thicker so last twice as long with less heat build up, I was going through a set of front Corbotech's in a track day (two drivers) which worked out expensive.
What I am suggesting is only for a track car, pointless for road use and it workes for me.

gents,

First off fitting the calipers and discs was a right pain, I had to machine off one of the lugs on the hub and machine up some new brackets, which doesnt sound too bad but they were at strange compund angles so not that easy.

Also had to bore out the strut mounts on the hub as they are a non standard 15mm.

I designed the whole assembly to be fail safe too, I have heard of people cutting lugs off calipers and rewelding them on and that just plain scares me.

If I used a celica GT4 master cylinder that would solve some of the pedal travel issues but make the bias issues a bit worse, if I used celica rear calipers (which you couldn't anyway because of the hand brake mechanism) it still would be unbalanced due to the weight distribution differences between MR2 and Celica.

The only realistic thing you can do is get some aftermarket stuff to re-balance the car.

The car doesn't want to swap ends but it helps if I have softer pads on the front than the rear to get some balance back, the best way to mod the brakes would be rebuild the standard calipers as inevitable the pistons and sliding mechanism are a bit mucky and put some decent pads and discs on, no bling there though and no challenge!!!!

I'd go down the route of betting a backet made up that bolts to the caliper then bolts to the hub retaining the original mountings - then I could revert to std if it went pear shaped

You think I didnt think of that?

Its pretty much impossible to get those calipers to fit just by putting a bracket on.

well I figured if you can fit cayenne brake caliper's to new shape golfs and r32 skyline / wilwood calipers to mr2's using that style of bracket then it must be possible to use that style of bracket to fit other calipers

there isnt enough space to fit another bracket between the Gt4 caliper and the hub.

if you can do it go for it!!!

Yeah but they ain't much of an upgrade, they are still 2 pots, just slight bigger pistons IIRC?

As you guys have a mid engine layout, you'll find that the rear brakes do actually work hard. Much harder than on front engined cars, its the same with the Boxster/Cayman and also the rear engined 911.

That means that a disc and calliper upgrade that offers the same brake distribution as standard will be very hard to acheive. Maybe if you used a brake bias valve that would help?

To be honest, I think the best option would be a rebuild and carbotech pads as recommended. But, with the addition of brake cooling ducts if you are working the car very hard on track.

Just my 2 pence

Im getting a set of EBC Yellow stuffs front and rear for my Rev 1 this month as Im off to the ring next month.

Im also going to knock up this for track use and block off for road use.

should do the trick.
