From an insurance point of view, it'd probably be cheaper to actually own a turbo than insure a heavily modified one.

Yeah, a modified N/A to turbo will be more expensive to insure than a turbo generally.

I got my turbo at 18/9 and paid just over 2k for insurance. This was with some online insurance co. Basically got my 2nd yr no claims and went to tesco.

Although I'm finding it harder and harder to insure my turbo now - as I'm 22 and under 25. As a lot of companies have clamped down on "grey imports" and are not insuring them. For this reason I had to leave the joyous world of Tesco Motor insurance, despite them quoting me 800 for my car! lol I had to go to Adrian flux, where I pay just under 1k with all mods declared.

In all honesty I doubt I'd be able to insure my car if I was 18 again, as a lot of the underwriting has changed.

I am 23 and could only find 3 insurance companies who would insure under 25's.

I am with Adrian Flux now and paying just under £1000 :(

Out of interest does anyone know any quotes for a N/A - turbo conversion?
I get the impression that the problem lies in the fact that the car is an import - you can buy UK MR2's and the engine is in a UK GT4, if Toyota had brought the MR2 turbo into this country in the first place.....

Im now old 25, and my insurance went down by like £400!from about £1000. (thats when i was 24 and a half!he he

I own N/A which is beside the point but G-limited. I pay roughly £600 full comp with Admiral, they are good at high insurance cars.
