[All] [Generic] Heat reflective material for my pipes (What to use??) HELP PLEASE

Post by 2barGee »

As you can see from the pic the pipe work going from the charge cooler to tb is pretty big!! Now its getting pretty warm and i want to keep it as cool as possible because the charge cooler is always stone cold!!!!

I have also just fitted a spal fan to suck out hot air but i want ot do everything possible to keep the intake temps down as i use the car for track days and i am off to the ring next month!!!!

What material is best to use to reflect the heat??

Thanks

I'd try and make/find a halfpipe shaped length of carbon fibre to go round the outside of the pipework. Or you could use flat sheeting you can buy and make a box section. Or just use a flat piece of carbon fibre sheeting. To be extra hardcore you could use Carbon fibre and kevlar sheeting to make a sandwich.

It's my understanding that the Carbon fibre should reflect the heat and the kevlar should stop any heat that does get through.

Might give you some ideas.

Alternatively you could use exhaust heat wrap or reflective heatshield tape wrap.

But the carbon/kevlar would look awesome :thumleft:

Ture the carbon/kevlar would look really good, but as i need this ASAP i think i will go with the tape.

Is there anywhere in the uk that sells it??

Cheers for the advice mate :thumleft:

Along with the wrap and heat shield you could stick a fan or 2 in the engine lid, will draw hot air out.

With that monstor charge cooler + fans i think your intake temps are gona be pretty damn low anyways  much better than what a stok IC or 205CC would do i imagine, that thing is huge!!!

What pre rad do you have running on that system?

its a radtec mate and a huge pump (see my garage) for some more pics.

The temps like you said will be pretty cool but i just want to get the best from the system i can

I did a track day last week and the core was still cold but the pipe was sooooooooooo hot!!

So with some good reflective tape on it should give the best temps possible.

Anybody know a place in england that sells it??

I dont think the tape will make much difference tbh.

what material is the pipe made out of as the material makes a huge difference Aluminium is the best thing thermally or replace it for a huge silicon job :thumleft:

Did a quick search on Demon Thieves for you....that's what they have when I typed in "Heat shield". I'd go with the Nimbus stuff as heard good things and it's solid but is pliable in straight lines so you can bend it to fit round whatever you need really.

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ ... ll&x=0&y=0

Expensive but at least you can get it. They have a huge supply of lots of things but because they're Demon Tweeks they charge a bit more for most things (was ok when I was doing my degree at NEWI and had mates with staff discount who worked there though :thumleft: Don't anymore though ](*,) )

Its aluminium, but to be honest the silicon gets really hot as well!!! The tape should reflect most of the heat so i am sure it will help the intake temps.
