I've seen a couple in the past couple of weeks. I only see them when I'm in my MK1.
1st I engineered to pull alongside it entering the Hanger Lane Gyratory. GOt a friendly knowing smile of the lady driver as we waited for the lights to change.

2nd was only just up the road from me, gave it a flash (I do this a lot now as I love popping the lights up.... loser  ) and din't get much of a response.

Definitely a wave .... and a big grin for the next 5 minutes. Sad, I know (especially after 11 years of driving one - I wonder if the novelty will wear off one day?!). But just love to see them on the road - every home should have one.

Picked up my Elise from his MOT this morning & the dealer looked more than a little put out when I quickly passed every Lotus, Noble & Subaru on the forecourt to go stalk admiringly round the MkI MR2 parked in a dark corner of the employee car park!

I saunter over and check it out - since the only time I ever see one these days is at a meet.

I can't remember the last time I saw one 'in the wild' as it were.

I've found a new one to wave at - I have passed it going the other way 4 time now, 3 times in a MK1. First (in the punto) i looked closely at a nice red shiney mk1 (checked arches  ), then in my mk1 I waved, then waved harder the next time, the flashed my lights the next.
The old guy driving it is either still waking up from the dead, is dead, or CBA to acknowledge that another local person can have a car as cool as the one he drives.

I have only ever prior to this had one other driver refuse point blank that there is another MK1 apart from thiers: a girl on the A42 who i overtook with a polite wave, then gave a thumbs up at a roundabout, then a point at her car, then mine then thumbs up.
I was met with a stoney stare straight ahead :(

I think the poite thing is a wave or headlight flash (not a malcolm flash  )

I tend to only wave at MK1s now as i keep waving at ford probes. Also i feel the MK1 has very little in common with the MK2  .

Rarely see any in north wales - loads of mk2's and lots of roadster's (probably due to the near by toyota dealership.).

A follow up question could be: "what do you say when a garage mechanic mistakes a mk1 for a TR7". #-o

Russ get that picture on here from the weekend (not the one of 2 gimps in a golf buggy, the one of the 2 sweet a$$ 1988 White MK1s in the car park).

ps everyone, I'm very pleased with my new one to replaced the helios I smashed last Thursday. Can you tell? :D

I seem to always see MK1s when I'm not driving mine - frustrating. Although I pulled along-side one at some lights last year in my area (miracle) and gave the guy a thumbs up and he waved back. We convoyed for a bit down the road and went our separate ways - put a smile on my face before work. :)

Funniest one was driving back from Chesham a few months back and spotted a gorgeous dark grey one coming the opposite direction. Had my window open and literally shouted "Yay! A MK1!" as he came past (much to the shock of my poor Mum in the passenger seat). Shame I was in the Yaris.

Saw him again today.
I've decided he is actually dead - no signs of life whatsoever. A zombie driving. No reaction to me at all, nada. :(

Having just said that, I finally saw a blue MK1 around Brockworth an hour or so ago - we flashed each other :)
