Clutch Replacement

Is there a guide anywhere (I have looked on the MR2MK1 website) for replacing the Clutch in the MK1??

My Clutch is slipping....... I have made adjustments at the pedal cylinder (in the frunk) but it is deinately still slipping

I have priced up replacement 3 piece clutches (212mm) and there coming in at anything from £69.99 to £84.99.

I am reasonabley mechanically minded but before I undertake would appreciate any input as to the how difficult it is and if there is a guide anywhere on here or other sites??

It really is a straightforward job, I did mine on my own and it is possible but with two people it would be easier. The only really tricky bit is getting the gearbox back on, it is a bit of a pig to line up but the rest is just undoing bolts

It is likely to be the same clutch as you would get in any motor factors, if you are using your car for normal road use then it should be OK

Okay - the gearbox is off and the old clutch is removed - any special advice on centralising the clutch??

No,no special tool needed just use an appropiate sized socket and extension.While you have got the bellhousing removed clean it internally and lubricate all the release arm pivot points.

ok - so old clutch off new one on and aligned using a socket with extention and a little bit of masking tape round the socket to give perfect fit....

So far so good.....

Nope - offering up the gearbox is proving to be a nightmare - I have the gearbox supported in place and rocking and twisting it trying to get it on seems impossible!!

Any hints tips to get the box back on....

I thought putting it back together would be the easy bit!

I used the top two bolts to pull the box on, if you have a spare bolt cut the head off and use it as a locating pin then use the other to pull the box on HTH

Strap the gearbox to the Jack, makes rocking it in to a point where you can pull it in with the bolts far easier.

The Gearbox is back on!!

thanks for all your help - is was a combination of shear grunt and perseverance!!

Was still tricky to get all the mounts lined up but were getting there. I can select all gears so that must be a good sign!

me too!!!

Cant think why it wouldnt all be okay - other than it being a general struggle all has gone well since I have done it on my own with one trolley jack!

The two I've done have been with the help of Tom and we used an engine hoist to support the gearbox. What a PITA
