New to Track Days - some questions

Hi all,
I'm thinking of trying out the Rev1 N/A on a track day - not sure when or where yet though, but would like to go to a proper track and not an airfield - comments/suggestions?
Next question - we put some 17"s on earlier this year, but was thinking of reverting back to the standard 14"s - again, comments?
If 14"s are OK, can someone give me an idea on tyre types and (more importantly) whether the standard width and profile sizes would be OK or should I look for tyres of a different size?

Whereabouts are you?

In terms of tyres I would use the 14" wheels and buy some medium priced tyres that are known to stand up well on trackdays. It's pointless buying specialist expensive trackday rubber because (1) You're not in a race, you're just there to enjoy yourself. (2) It doesn't matter how fast you are going, you need something that can take the abuse but remain predictable so you can learn / enjoy. (3) It will save you money so that you can do more trackdays

Are there any particular tyre types you would recommend? Also, would the standard, Toyota OEM tyre profiles ok, or should I look to change these to something else (lower profile, wider width)? I was thinking of not getting new tyres (they would probably get rooted quickly), so would be looking for nearly new/good secondhand.

Ah, im in Hinckley too (work at Triumph), if you fancy popping in one day and talking trackdays.

Looks like you can get Vredestein Hi-Tracs in 195-60 R14.

The difficult ones to find are the 205-60 R14 sizes (rears). I can only see Falken ZE-912s on mytyres.co.uk which have mixed reviews.

May be worth finding a set of stock 15 inch alloys for trackwork as the tyre sizes are more common so you have a better selection.

Stick to stock sizes, see how you get on. I wouldn't recommend lowering the profile as it will only make the handling less progressive which is not what you want first time out.

The big problem with the stock sizes is that the choice of tyre is SEVERELY limited for the Rev 1. I tried finding rears for Malc's old Rev1 tubby and had real problems, it was either TDFs or Falkens which turned out to be not much better.

Agreed it may be a better option to source some 15s.

Rather than use the Rev1 14" wheels, try and find some 15" wheels, and swap to the bigger Rev2+ brakes too
