1997 UK T-bar Goodwood needing alt - £1700 - with Kenwood satnav, sub, amp

Post by RichardK »

I just paid a deposit on a C6. Very, very busy and don't have time to fix the alternator since it's a bit trickier than just "grab spanner, remove, replace" when you don't have anything to lift the car with.

For the time being, unless I get a mechanic to fix it (no time right now) I'll take £1700 for the whole lot. The only drawback is that you've either got to fit an alternator (it'll need a belt too) in the driveway with your own tools and bruised knuckles, or tow it/drive it a short distance (I'll charge the battery up, but I expect it to be "drive onto a trailer", not "drive home").

It's in Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Yes. the bit that has been rendered Even more Remote because the pathetic joke of a "main road" from England to Scotland washed away.

EDIT: Now on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=011

Yes. The price is higher there. I'm expecting people to haggle, I'm including all the audio gear, and it's not just club members seeing it ;)

Okay - here's a link to a page of pictures and information:

It's a 1997 R-plate Rev. 4 T-bar, Goodwood Green with leather, wheels are standard diamond cut needing a refurb, few touched-up stonechips. The bootlid has three shallow dents, but if we ever manage to co-ordinate I have arranged to buy a dent-free bootlid from Rich in the right colour!

The car is fairly typical - 103,000 miles, new radiator from Toyota/fitted by Toyota, new leads/cap/arm/plugs, oil change will be done soon, new undertray fitted, Rev. 5 deflectors fitted. Alarm works, two keys/fobs. Needs a bit of work on front suspension (vibration/brake imbalance) and an engine mount ideally.

MOT is March 2009, Tax is October 2008. Tyres are legal but rears need replaced soon.

It drives nicely, runs well, delivers good economy, and on the whole I'm very pleased with it.

It's got a Kenwood DNX-7200 satnav headunit with iPod Video control, GTM-10 TMC (subscription enabled), BT200 bluetooth (audio and handsfree - play music via bluetooth!).

Optionally you can buy a 960W 4 channel PS5451 amp (not installed), PS1700 front speaker components (not installed, 6.5" 220W capable) and sub box with 10" 1000W sub. Sub is "resting" in the car but not connected, the rest of the kit is still in boxes.

Satnav works very well, not quite up to TomTom smoothness but has some features TomTom lacks like compass so it knows where the car is pointing.

Pictures and more information in my garage. And no, I'm not stalking off from MR2 ownership in a huff or anything, I just got offered the car I always planned to buy at a very good price and might be able to take it sooner than planned if I can sell the MR2 and Ignis that replaced the Delica!

Read and replied :) !

Worth noting that at the moment I've got better weather and possibly more time, so the cost won't go up for finishing the installation of the stereo system. I have some doubts as to how much of it I could fit in my Ignis, so I am prepared to entertain offers around the £3,000 mark for the car with it all fitted - it's just that finding a location for a 960W four channel amp in an MR2 is a PITA (it'll fit my Ignis fine with a false boot floor, but I'd need different speakers! Also... an Ignis Sport with subwoofer is crossing into territory I really don't want to consider!).

Had a couple more thoughts about how best to market this - advert has now been revised.

£2,500 for an honestly described, tidy late (November '97 IIRC) Rev. 4 T-bar in one of the best colours, with brand new radiator (and serviced, and cooling system checked over by Toyota), long MOT, tax... and a 7" Touch screen DVD/Satnav from a decent manufacturer fitted that includes Traffic info and Bluetooth hands-free kit...

To be perfectly honest, if no-one thinks it's worth that, then I'm disappointed.

I will consider px, but the cars I like aren't likely to be found on this forum. However; something small, economical and cheap may well have a home in that my ex's Fiesta diesel is looking very sorry for itself.

I think both of those are worth more than I'd like to allow for a p/x, tbh. Well. Fetch more than I'm willing to allow.

I might consider the 106 Rallye, depending on if it has a sunroof, price, condition etc. Thing is, you're probably far enough away that it'll be somewhat of a pain to check each other's cars over before coming up with figures.

Bump for new images! Yes, pictures, because who wants to buy a car they can't see! No-one, that's who!

Probably much the same as who wants to buy a car they can see, judging by successes lately ;)

Bump for a reduced price.

£2,000. With the satnav fitted. For a 1997, Goodwood Green MR2 T-bar, in summer, with a really good head unit, leather, new radiator etc.

If no-one wants it for that, the radio comes out and I trade it for some other cars ;)

Clearly trying to sell an MR2 on an owner's club site is a bit like trying to sell snow to Inuit.

I'd have it but I just need to raise the cash or sell one of my cars, when they come in from Japan :thumleft:

Well...

Hmm... I think... no...

Wait... Maybe...

Um. No.

Yeah. I really have to say no. I can't think of any reason why I'd want a smaller, tinnier, slower, over a decade older car than my Suzuki Ignis and pay money for it too :)

I mean, is that Honda really worth more than a 6 years younger, albeit higher mileage, MR2 T-bar? If I wanted another small older Japanese car I'd stick with what I know and have a Toyota Sera again - I've owned 3 and my last one was a lovely, 60,000 mile, black, Phase 3 1993 model which I sold for £2K.

I think I need to describe it as "mint" and "highly sought after", and probably say something like "no test pilots". I had a look at a "mint" Vectra the other day, and once I'd eliminated the broken A/C, awful vibration from the buckled wheel, faulty handbrake, broken info panel, leaking coolant, horrid smells, cheap (and frankly, dangerous) tyres (ever heard of "Goodride" tyres?!), rusty rear arches, faulty door locks, strange goo in the ashtray, broken rear wiper, suspect seatbelt pretensioner, strange blow from the exhaust, and misfire, I had to agree. Or well, I would have done if the car hadn't looked like a bird that eats brake fluid had pooed all over it.

Still. I walked away in the end. Have you ever DRIVEN a Vectra? What worries me is that I think the seller was right when they said "drives like new". I've driven a £200 shed of a 1977 Vauxhall Victor VX2300 Automatic from Watford to the Borders, and frankly, I was less disgusted with how that handled and felt as a car.

I know my car isn't new. It's a decade and a bit old, and it has some wear. I figure it makes sense to be honest about it, because pretty much any car that age will be much the same. Advertisers seem determined to portray otherwise, though, so perhaps my car doesn't look so attractive.

There's no need to be sarcastic [-X
I was just trying to find a solution to buying your car. I'm definitely interested, but don't have the cash available, as previously stated.

Yes, strangely enough, the Honda is worth more than your MR2 :-s
For some reason, Honda's seem to hold their value better than Toyota's.
A 18 year old CRX/Civic VT is still fetching anywhere between £2-4000, depending on condition. Usually higher for a "mint" example :D

Also, comparing my Honda City to your Suzuki Ignis - the City is quicker & I'd bet it's better built than the Ignis. Granted, the City is older & smaller :thumleft:

I'm more amused by asking for money as well as the Honda, tbh - but if you're right, then I'm sure it'll sell quickly and you'll have the cash! :D

I seriously doubt the City is quicker or better made than the Ignis, though. It may be in better condition than a younger Ignis, but I reckon like-for-like aging in the UK, the Honda would be dead first. And my Ignis is the 1.5 Sport model, which whilst I'm not about to get into boy-racer style willy-waving about how my shedlike tinny hatch is quicker than someone else's (I've owned real sportscars), is respectably quick and handles surprisingly well. Figures of 0-60 in 8.9 seconds are only half the story; I've chased down much bigger, better "sporty" cars, like Alfa Breras in it, and despite clearly trying they can't corner as tidily.

Plus, I bet it looks really silly from the outside when I drive it like that. It's a damned ugly car, the Ignis Sport.
