[Mk2] [NA] How Easy is it to Replace Rear Quarter Glass?
Some little toerag has smashed my o/s Rear q glass. I have sourced a 2nd hand replacement from a yard and would like to have a go at fitting it myself to save costs. Is this possible or would a car glass expert need to do it? Thanks

Hi, I had the same when someone broke into mine!
make some you have some window sealant before you begin! remove the plastic vent behind the rear window there are 3 screws in there to remove
then you must go inside the cabin and remove some of the plastic trim to get to the rest of the screws/nuts, there should be at least 3 nuts to remove then the window is freed.
the window will already be window sealed in so I then put some garden gloves on a pulled and pulled till it finally came free!(was a pain in the ar$e) cleaned of all remaining bits of sealant. reinstalation is just the other way round but adding some window seal around the edge of the glass. This is only rough as it was along time ago now but its fairly simple even for a novice

Hi, remove all or as much as you can of the original sealant, leaving a thin amount is fine. Use something like Dinitrol sealant primer over the old sealant and surrounding areas, this stuff will also seal small scratches in the paintwork if you have accidentally caught it scraping off the old sealant. Then use a window sealant that is recommended for the auto industry not some sort of bathroom sealant as I have seen in the past LOL. Prime the area of the glass that will seal on the new sealant as well, this will ensure the best level of 'stickiness'. Put a bead all the way round the window aperture and press firmly into postion, secure the window in place with a few bits of masking tape to ensure it doesn't slip down under its own weight whilst curing. Bead of sealant needs to be adequate to ensure that the glass sticks but your sealant doesn't squish all over the outside of the car or dropping into your interior. Good luck and as the previous poster said its quite simple really. HTH

OK so I swapped the old smashed glass with the replacement.
Was pretty much as you guys said. Everything came out really easy. I didn't even have to use gloves to pull the smasehd glass out (Only sustained minor injuries 
).
The black gunk was sticky but pealed away in one peice so left hardly any residue. The trickiest part was removing all the interior trim, seemes I had to take a lot more off than I first thought.
A job well done, thanks guys saved me self£40 and took no more than an hour and half tops.
