1989 Mk1 for sale [SOLD]

Post by WillJohnson »

Hi All, [CAR NOW SOLD] :D
Little used since purchase Nov 2006. Just over 104,000 on the clock.
Tax to end Aug, MOT to Mar 2009. Fitted virtually new Avons on TSW 15" wheels and new clutch less than 1500 miles ago. Car has NOT been garaged since I got it and there is no hint of dampness in the interior even after extensive rain and snow. Oh, and the electric aerial works - apparently this is a major selling point.
Image

Reason for sale: Original plan was to convert to a race car but ended up buying ready-built car and have now moved on to a Mk2 racer.
Bodywork is pretty darned good - particularly arches. But a previous owner sprayed it yellow!
I am looking for £1150 but will come down if you want to stick your own wheels on it. More pics below. (Car is in Worcester)
Cheers JOHN (#7)

Looks more lemon to me!

Nice car btw - yellow is a love it or hate it thing I guess but it looks like a very tidy car for the money. :thumleft:

Colour & Service History

Post by WillJohnson »

Yellow - right with you there - I've tried to get used to it but I think I'm the wrong side of 25 (x2). The inside of the bonnet is a beautiful, immaculate Mica Blue!

Shedload of history available, main dealer serviced until 2002 then the invoice trail is a little less consistent.

Previous owner advised that the cambelt had been change at 95,545 but there is no invoice to substantiate this.

s/h unfitted Janspeed stainless exhaust and K&N filter to fit standard housing can also be worked into a deal on the car.

If it doesn't go, I'm going to write to MTV and see if they will "un-pimp my ride" :-k

if it's not sold yet >

So without the wheels and throwing in a free pair of sunglasses so I can look at it to find the door handle, how much are you after? I can't believe I'm asking but the more I look the more I like it.... shhhh don't tell my missus...

How good is the paint job btw? I notice they sprayed over the black rubber edging/seal of the side skirts (which is a common trait i've found on resprays) and that rust on the A pillar looks quite nasty (what is the car like on the inner arch and wheel pan area around there?). Any pics of the underside, sills, arb mounting points, inner arches etc would be welcome (PM if you prefer)

I've been up all night scouring the net for mr2s so not been to sleep yet so mebbe it's the lack of sleep that's got me liking the yellow :?:

Actually I'll admit i've always quite liked yellow, lambos, lotus', ferrari, the mk1 can get away with it being the shape it is though It's not my first colour choice.

A solid body and a tidy paint job with no hidden rust are my priorities, not sure how easy it would be blending my SC engine lid to that colour, do you know the paintcode btw?, I hear yellow is very hard to match? but then that's irrelevent if you don't want to sell your car to someone who is going to rip the engine out.... btw if you wanted to keep the engine/box/interior for any reason (another race 2) and sell me the body for even less (obv only if you can't shift it as is) I may be interested.. just got to ask the fiancee' first if she'd actually sit in it... :) it would be quite unique that's for sure - esp an SC conversion (Another guy in south wales had a yellow one but the shade didn't look as nice as yours - what do I know, maybe it's the same one!)

oh PM if you prefer, prob best in fact.

PM sent but also:

Sorry , no paint code for the yellow - I though I'd be respraying blue if I raced it!

If the standard engine & box were taken out, there would probably be a buyer in the www.mr2racing.com or www.mr2championship.com communities.

John
I have a nice MK1 with racing pedigree to p/x
It's a little shorter and a little narrower than most Mk1's
Already in a nice[sic] mid blue finish that you favour but with hints of dark blue, red & white...

regards
Gareth

Ah, Gareth (AKA MR2-Slayer) thanks for the offer but I can't accommodate another car otherwise I'd have kept the original Mk1 Blue Meanie and perhaps have joined in the fun at the Nippon Challenge rounds.

Good luck with the re-shelling, #17 was very good to me, I hope the remaining transplanted bits are good to you.

Cheers JOHN

P.S. Top racing tip:
- try not to get hit so much.
