Old car -new look

Post by RST »

Well 5 months in the body shop and I finally got it back last week. What do you folks think....
  • Full re-spray in original colour (Aquamarine, Pearlescent) -all windows out except rear windscreen. Everything else taken off the car that would come-off
    New windscreen and seal
    New T-Bar seals
I sand blasted and re-sprayed the original wiper blades at work
Replaced Neos Bomex bumper with Rogue Rev 6 (RMG)
Neos Border Hybrid side skirts (remain on the car from before but quality of them caused problems during painting)
Replaced Neos Border rear spats with Rogue Type P (RMG)
The wheels are Team Dynamics Pro race 1.2 in Anthracite (I have black lightweight nuts to go on this weekend
...no second hand parts used except for the high level brake light and spoiler thanks to a member off here (sorry -deleted PM -Can't remember name). The existing side trims on the car were ditched and replaced with new "thin" mouldings -that was all I could get new, I would have much prefered the UK thicker ones. They're now re-sprayed to the body colour.

Have now got to fit 4 off new callipers painted red ready to fit c/w 4 off 2n'd hand calliper brackets which I refurbished (sand blasted and painted red). Peter Gidden provided all the new nuts, bolts, sliders bellows etc. needed to fit and I have a set of Goodridge s/s braided lines to go on as well which were ordered from Demon Tweeks way back into last year.

This shot will please the rev 1/2 fans (rob) -they're new light clusters from flashmetal. I don't think Jeff could understand why I was spending that money on rev 1/2 items and not 3+. I bought a new centre panel from Toyota not long after I bought the car as the original one fitted was cracked. I much prefer the look. I've tried USDM red corner triangles but didn't like them. I also have a pair of Wolfie's OEM quality clear rev 1/2 rear indicator lenses but having seen the car again / trial fits -I'll not be fitting them (I would have fitted them if I still had the Bomex bumper and clear clusters). These items will be up for sale soon (both essentially unused).

Last shot with my new Recaro Speeds fitted (finally -think I've had them since October last year! -much thanks to Nightspirit for help with sourcing the proper rails). There's now a knack to getting into the car without planting my ar$e on the bolster, but I've got used to it. They are very comfy and hold much better in corners compared to the leather seats.

...now provisionally booked into Roge 2-6th June for l/w flywheel, uprated clutch and Link ECU to be fitted. I can't see me going itb's this year -we may trial fit them to look at filters and clearances and get a set-up built for a visit in 2009. I lost way too much driving time this year already!

Getting the car back is SUCH a weight off my mind. I had a difficult bodyshop and a bit of hassle getting hold of parts which has all coincided with a very stressful time at work. I have £0.5M of hydraulic plant to comission for our production line -and I essentially designed it with far too many unknowns so I have to get it all to work somehow. It's been very stressful with very difficult suppliers.

I'm so glad I now have something I can jump in at the end of the day and enjoy for the commute home -it always brings a smile to my face when the VVt-i kicks in!!!

Cheers,

Richard

Looking v good there Richard, great choice for the rear lights! Only thing I'm not sure about is the colour of the seats but hey, thats what modding is about isn't it... making it how YOU want it.
Good work. Now enjoy it.

Thanks for the comments folks!!!

I was hoping to maybe show the car but it's a bit late in the season now and I missed out on the imoc Aberdeenshire drive as well.

I wasn't too sure about the colour of the seats initially either. I made a bit of an errrmm, hmmm, tut sound when I saw them first (I thought I'd made a mistake after all) but they add a splash of colour and are much coooler than the black leather seats on a sunny day with the T-Bar shades off. They've grown on me now and having sat in them for a few miles in the last few days they're great in country lanes even with my non-Recaro shaped ass.

I got them from www.recaro-seats.co.uk (product page http://www.recaro-seats.co.uk/sport-sea ... -speed.php) and blagged a 10% discount for buying 2 at the same time. Actually one of the recliner knobs broke almost the very first time I touched it. That reminds me -must pop the replacement knob I got back on the passenger seat. I can't see any difference from the Honda ones apart from the trim.

I cleaned the bodyshop muck out from under the bonnet today (back to usual now)...

And I cleaned up the dust out of the engine bay...

(sorry -they're not great pics -I'm trying out my new Canon G9 digi camera)

Thanks,

Richard
