[Mk2] [Turbo] Pics from the track day (31st May)

Post by 2barGee »

My first track day!!! and i am totally hooked!!!!!! I went with a few of my mates (1 in his brand new gt3) and we had a great day.

The gt3 was in a different league when it came 2 handling&NOISE!!!!

My other mate drives rally cars and he came out with me and help me so much.

The mr2 never missed a beat, i had the boost controller turned off for most and the day and i still span it 4 times!!!!! I was going for it and defo found the limits which was the plan anyway.

Enjoy a few of the pics 8)

That's a lovely looking motor - not so keen on the spoiler myself but nice all the same. Looks like you had fun out there! Where was it held?

The next step is fit my monster charge cooler and carbon bonnet then book the next track day!!!

What air field did you go on, I have got to get one sorted soon. When I get all the weddings sorted this year.

Just noticed your location is Wakefield and Essex, I’m also from Wakefield but live in Essex, nothing to do with the tread just found it interesting

I have my name down for an imoc day at Woodbridge, http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=94867

I’m best man twice this year, and have 3 other weddings to go to on top of that so sorting out a track day has been put on the back shelf.

I was born in Wakefield and lived on Thornes Road. I moved down south when I was about 6 years old. We still go up there to visit relatives and have the best fish n chips, mushy pees and curry source. I don’t know why but the fish n chips down south just don’t seem to come close.
I live in Witham at the moment.

Did you buy a helmet or hire?

There wa a few cars that sound loud on the track, a cossie had an external wategate and that was ok. They only tested the cars at the start of the day before the sighting laps......not sure if they did anything else throughtout the day.

Mine was only 95db thats with a de-cat and departure2 it is very very quite. Got a nur spec in the garage, but i will stick with the departure2 for the next few track days i am doing!! Is there noise limits at the ring???

Cheers for the nice commets people. More carbon will be fitted for the next track day 8)

Looking good

Post by tomwoodis »

Hey Buddy,

Looks like you had an amazing day, I wish I'd got round to doing a day in her before I sold her but pleased someone has finally done one.

Not sure why you took the carbon bonnet back off the car but in my opinion I think keeping the red one on her probably looks nicer. Perhaps you could just put the carbon one on when you do trackdays :-k

I just remembered that I completely forgot to get back to your text message regarding the clutch. I've also now seen your other post on whats been happening with it.

The clutch was second hand when I bought it but supposedly had only done 700 miles. Having seen it before it was fitted I have no reason to doubt that as it looked very new. The clutch was fitted not long before you got it but had to be refitted at the same time as the gearbox was replaced. This was done at 3s not long before I sold you the car in fact, and apparently James at 3S said that the person who fitted the clutch didnt actually do it properly.

I just hope that the ill-fitting of the clutch didn't kill it prematurely. :pale: The one thing I would say though is that its only the 300lbfts rps clutch and its likely that with the boost up high your pushing the limits of it anyway. It might be that when relatively new it just about coped but with a few more miles on her now the clutch is starting to break away :-k

Anyway glad you had a good time bud, incidentally the front bumper is looking very clean, have you had it repainted recently,

Take care,

Tom

Cool pictures :thumleft: i had my 2 on an airfield friday too, great fun. More fun than a regular track day as you know there is nothing to hit if you get it wrong.

The carbon bonnet needs some bonnet pins so it fits perfectly so i've taken it off till i get chance to fit it perfectly.

I chop and change all the time with the carbon fiber as i like the way it looks with and without.

The clutch was fine on the track but i was not running full boost the whole time as i didnt want to kill myself. It seemed ok though so fingers crossed it will be fine.

The bumper has not been touched mate, it was catching on most of the corners on the track day  YOu know how low it is LOL

The wheels you see in the pics are my track day rims so i just swap them over.........dont worry mate i have not got rid of the 5 spokes!!! I think 5 spokes on the 2 look the best. 8)
