What's it worth (not for sale)

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Hiya everyone.

As I got a very very stern warning from the local police man yesterday morning, warning me that if I am seen to be breaking the speed limit again, I will be disqualified! So, I might be on the look out for a much slower car after JAE! So now, am wondering what my car is worth...

1990 March Registered, so one of the very last!
88k Miles - All previous MOTs to back up mileage
Tax end of August (will put another 12 months on anyway)
MOT Feb 2009

Rear arches split, but not seriously gone. May get the done before JAE (not sure yet).

Front drivers wing replaced (no rust)
Some blemishes on front and rear bumper covers
Only rust on the car is cosmetic, as I have been over the car will a toothcomb!

Mods:

Full S/S Mongoose Exhaust (recent brand new back box, from manufacturer)
Magnecor HT Leads
Blitz air filter
Koni suspension & dropped 30mm all round
Mk3 Roadster 15" Alloys, included a 5th to a make a full set.
All alloys on nearly new 195/50/15 Goodyear Eagle F1s
Front front lenses & clear indicators
Rhons white leather interior (gear stick gaitor, under radio storage etc)
Sony M800r Cd player
Infinitey Reference Speakers at front

Excellent handling since suspension change, cant fault it. No mechanical problems whatsover. Had to buy a rear brake caliper since owning it since last may. Covered 22k with no breakdowns or faults (apart from caliper).

Gearbox is great.
Engine great
Suspension adjustable (never have to worry about mots)
All new droplinks when suspension was installed.

I expect this will be moved, but what do you guys & girls reckon?

Regards,

Alex

I would say £1500, that is how much I would say I would get for mine and no it is not for sale either. :thumleft:

Something slower than a Mk1? Are you sure you want to cycle everywhere.....

Seriously, have you considered any advanced driver training? That way you can continue to enjoy spirited drives and be much more aware of hazards....

I have an advanced course im going on in the next few weeks actually :P

I was followed by an unmarked car for about 13 miles down a dual carriageway. His words were "exceeding 90mph", and i know how fast i was really going, so was very lucky he didnt pull me there and then!

One grand, you must be joking?!

If a MR2 like yours pops up in Belgium (and I'd be needing one) I'd offer arround 3k euro. Heck I paid 2k euro for mine which has high mileage and isn't in the best mechanical condition but is completely rust free.

I'm afraid is all comes down to rarity, I can count the online adds for MK1 MR2's in Belgium on one hand (and the number of non rust buckets on one or two fingers). The UK on the other hand gives me the impression that there are a lot of them, so prices are low.

Prices are a difficult subject, I have spent £2500 on mine but still it is only worth what someone will pay. Have a look in the for sale section, it is very revealing :)

Just out of curiosity, what's the speed limit on UK highways? Overe here it's 120kmh (80mph) but I often touch 130 or 140, I don't think there's any cop that would pull me over for that.

Drive slower on the roads and use the money you save in petrol to do a few track days.

No offense but speeding on uk roads in todays camera/police happy environment is for idiots only.
