[Mk2] [Turbo] Timing belt and Oil

Post by TubbyTTop »

Hi,

I'm a newbie to the world of MR2s and have just bought my self a Rev 2 T-bar Turbo. I come from having owned 4WD cars so getting used to the lively handling of the MR2 will be interesting!

Anyway I want to get the timing belt changed asap. How much should I be looking to pay in parts and labour and is it a difficult job? Also where would be the best lace to by all the parts I need for a timing belt change?

Also what oil is the most recommended?

Thanks :D

Welcome to the world of MR2 ownership and enjoy.

You can use either a 5w40 or 10w40 grade oil in a turbo. Fully synthetic is the best choice but more costly. Change it every 4-5k miles.

A cambelt change is quite labour intensive and will cost around £200 if you go to a garage.
