Hey Steve

That's still a very good time! I guess depending on numbers you might be taken up on that!

Jonno, 6th June....I will know for sure in two weeks time. I don't want to commit JUST yet - they haven't managed to run it up today after all but it will be next week. Once we've established it all works then I'll commit :D

I've followed this thread since it started. My engine is currently being built after a couple of misfortunes, but its well on its way now. I am really hoping for it to be ready by TOTB, but when thinking about it realistically i dont think the car will be ready, which is why i dont want to be on the list. There is still a fair amount, which needs doing like custom fabrication for the intercooler, wiring loom, mapping, etc etc and then driving it to get used to the power (500BHP+ and then race gas)

Will keep all updated...

Sounds very interesting mate! Mike knows better than me, but I think the deadline is June, preferably with some 'run' times.

Oh well, i may aswell call it a day now!!!

My engine builder is saying a NO NO to my 86.50mm pistons. Problem is they were a custom sized piston and rod, which means an 8-12 week wait for the new size

Due to a particular heavy work load over the last 3 months my engines not made a great deal of progress.

However, I am happy to report my motor will be back in and running 1st week June.

I'm interested in taking part but am unsure as to whether or not my car qualifies? Best 1/4 to date is a 12.7 @110mph. That was with a good few issues on the day that I hope to have ironed out within the next couple of weeks! (ie only holding full boost for 400rpm and not having a clutch able to hold on to things) That being the case i'll have some new 1/4 times before the end of the month :D Fingers crossed [-o<

Anything to report on the new chargecooler yet? Matt said you were testing this week?

Hey Mikejc

Not a bad time! At the end of the day we'll take working cars with decent times I suspect, LOL. Michael is organising and I guess he'll do a cut off date thingy!
T

edit: I love it when a plan comes together....

My final chassis mods are complete, once I've paid the invoice car goes to engine builders...

I'm popping off to engine builders Monday/Tuesday to drop off final nuts and bolts and to take some photies :D

I've just booked the car into Millway 2nd week of June for cosmetic makeover and fitting of my new fibreglass bodyparts!

All very exciting (though expensive!)

Hi Neil.

I'm told that it is ready but that they are yet to collect it. This being the case I hope to have it fitted and remapped by the 21st of this month. That is if the new clutch turns up in time!?

Watch this space...

Any updates on the cars chaps?

Should we start putting together a list of people who will be able to run.

Hmm,

Well, everything was great until last night - I suspect I have either cracked my block or damaged the head gasket. More news to follow as soon as I know exactly what I have bust.

For anyone interested here are some logs...

Not exactly sure to be honest, just out testing the new CC core - felt fantastic on the first low boost test, checked the motec logs and everything was good. Later that day I went out again and decided to have a quick go on higher boost, tried the 1.5 bar setting and it felt and sounded pretty good so i decided to have a quick blast at 1.9 bar - car felt fantastic, loads of power and sounded sweet. Then after maybe 4 or 5 blasts at 1.9 bar I left the motorway and noticed a small puff of white smoke out of the mirror. Drove about 3 miles to get petrol and everytime i let the revs drop the smoke got worse and worse, filled up with fuel and when i restarted the engine it sounded like an Imprezza and was only running on 3 cylinders - it also filled the garage forecourt with bellowing white smoke!. I nursed her the 1 mile home and havent started it since.

Tow truck just left to take it to Bri at Powerhouse in Derby - he is going to have a look inside the cylinders with his endoscope and do a compression check to try and figure out whats happened. Best guess at the minute is either the HG or cracked block. I dont really like the sound of either :(

Sorry to hear that mate!

This may sounds daft but did you keep an eye on a/f ratio's when you put the new CC on? Could the car have been running much leaner since the intake charge was far cooler?

Hope its something relatively cheap to fix!

Hmmm,

Well, it was running the Pace CC before and to be honest the inlet temps were pretty low with that, it was very restrictive and tended to cool the inlet way too much.

Having said that, the map was pretty rich and I would have expected a lean mixture to have damaged the rings? Which would mean I would have seen blue smoke rather than white?. You never know though, the new CC is working far better than we imagined, its cooling is as good if not better than the Pace core and its alot less restrictive!.

I suspect my best case is the HG and worst case is the cracked block. I cant see any other way for coolant to be getting inside the cylinder? Either way its unlikely to be cheap :(

Anyone got a spare thick walled block going cheap?

Neil.

Jonno,

Really sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Was just about to PM you to ask if I go for a spin with you in your Mk2 turbo sometime (I am in Ripley). I have never been in one and I expect the performance of your car is mind blowing.

If you need a hand at weekends to rebuild the engine I would be prepared to come and help out for a few hours (after I have rebuilt mine that is!)

Best of luck, hate to hear these stories.

At the minute it all depends on how hard you push - seemed quite quick right before it blew up though :)

I suspect I will let Bri at Powerhouse do the work, I trust him and I just dont have the time. I am desperate to get it ready for TOTB this year!!
