[Mk2] [NA] Dead battery and engine cooling fan light

Post by kieran_sly »

Went to start my car this morning and was greeted by the sound of a dead battery which is very unusual as had no problems with it and go on plenty of long journeys.

Came back later only to find it did reluctantly start so I though I'd take it on a bit of a drive to charge it up, alas 50 yards down the road i noticed the engine cooling fan warning light on so I turned back.

once home I visually checked the fuses, relays, sensor and fan ECU which all look fine. The fan comes on if I unplug the sensor.

The battery is as flat as a pancake now so cant do anything but my question is this:

Could the 2 be related or is this just a coincidence, Does the fan coming on if the sensor is unplugged mean the sensor could be faulty?

Thanks

fan come on when it is hot, by unplugging it it will come on instant
and as for flat battery, you check the charging voltage ? and how old is the battery,

I use to drive a mirca, got home, next morning refuse to start, but changed battery everything was fine.

so it could be your battery not charging,
