NW MK1 Club Meets

Post by j0nathan »

It was a beautiful day today at the Wiggin Tree. A few times in thepast 6 months I've been along to be greeted by a throng of empty spaces where the MR2 MK1s normally park and today was no exception. I am beginnign to get the feeling that I am the only regular member for non-meets!

The sky was blue - the sun was shining - there were a couple of ladies in different states of undress sitting on the wall on the other side of the road:

...and yet the MK1 spaces were a little empty:

...so I wondered back a bit and no... still empty:

The rape in the fields behind is a beautiful shade of yellow though. What is happening re Tatton as well? I got an email from John Redmond asking if I was interested and I am but I have heard nothing since. The thread in the events section doesn't give me much to go on either...

Hi Jon,

Those spaces are a sorry sight arn't they

I'm also sorry to say that the spring Tatton Park event is not going to include the MK1 club

But all is not lost, Sysanguinary is going to try and arrange a meet for June, and Tatton WILL happen in August. :D

Nor me! Does the NW have an organiser currently?

Hi j0nathan. I'm too turned up at the Wiggin Tree (around 1ish) and found it to be devoid of Mk1 activity. Stuck around till 1.15 but still nothing. I'm not a member but was hoping chat to some of the members. Hopefully catch you next time.

Stuart.

Stuart.

Were you in a 2? If you were then I missed you by nanoseconds I reckon! I didn't have my 2 but was sitting by the entrance for quite a while. Left and went for a blast down the country lanes in the sunshine.

For all the others that were not aware the meet is the second Sunday in the month (usually). No need to say come along any way on the off chance since Sy is organising the meet for June. I'd offer to help out more myself but I simply don't want to commit since with the amount of work we are carrying out to the house I can not be relied on for external events - my event organiser doesn't seem to have MK1 Club meets at the front of her mind! ;-)

Chaps,
Sorry to hear that not everyone knows about these meets. Given this situation, I've discussed it with Jo and have now added another section to the Mk1 Club Events sticky at the top of the Mk1 Club section. The sticky now includes info of regional meets such as this one. I'll add to it when I can but if you know (now) of any that happen, can you PM either myself of Jo and one of us will add it...?
Also, can someone just double check I got the info on this NW correct in the sticky?

Cheers!

...so close - amend 1:00pm to be 12:30pm.
Maybe add a link as well: Link to Google maps for meet location

Hi Jonathan, I think that might have been me you saw in a MK1 going wizzing past. I’m in a black MK1a now like yours, not the red MK1b you’ve seen me in before. I was on my way home after a night out and I came home via the Wiggin Tree and passed it about 1ish. I wasn’t expecting anyone to be there as the usual emails that notify us of meets from John R haven’t been circulating recently, but though I’d try anyway. And as your photo shows, there was no one there at all as I went past so I kept on driving. Doh! #-o Sorry, didn’t see you by the entrance.

Right, so here and now I’ll say I’ll be there for June’s meet! As the first day in June is Sunday the 1st, are we looking at Sunday June 8th for the next meet? The sooner I know the less chance my other half will have to organise my life for me!

...I should be there for the June meet. If I'm not in the 2 then I'll be in a (say it very quietly) Rover 220Sdi...

...hopefuly, based on the responses here there'll be a few meeting for a drink, chat, and a poke at other people's cars.

...and I lie. Ooops. I've double booked the weekend and can't make it - shame because the 2 is back on the road. Hopefuly the other half hasn't booked me up for July's meet date.

I'll be there in a red Mk1b. 12.30?

Hopefully there'll be more than Jimbo and myself.

'Fraid I can't make this one.... I've decided not to use the two until all the dampers have been replaced and I don't have any spare time (to do the job) until the end of the month.

Having discovered that the front dampers are completely shot and the car is riding purely on the springs I don't think it's worth risking it!!!

Will hopefully see you at the July meet with a car the rides\drives properly!!! :thumleft:

Hi Jimbo, your in luck, I have read this!

I'll send an email out tonight. I can't guarantee I'll be there, I know SySanguinary was trying to get a meet organised.
