[Mk2] [Generic] Well i'm back :) Picked up a nice White UK rev3

Post by steve b »

So immensely slow compared to the mx5, but I smiled all the way home there is something just so nice about MR2s.

Christening it tomorrow with a trackday at Castle Combe, it'll be interesting in the wet with wide heavy 17"s wrapped in Nangkangs. Thinking i'll be taking it easy

:D

Was going to say 'Hmmm on paper the MX5 should be very similar performance-wise', then I looked at your Mazda's mod list...

I was just about to say the same thing. Welcome back though. We all seem to come back sooner or later. Wonder why that is...

I just sold my MR2 and I got my old 3.0S Ford back...I don't think I'll be back with an MR2 though.

I give you 6 months!

When I bought a Beamer in January I was convinced I had left MR2 land forever.

I lasted about two months.

Well it's my old Capri that I sold my MR2 to buy back from the chap that I sold it to a few years ago - no more MR2s for me :D

Well it had its christening at Combe today :D Really good day and ideal to test that every things ok with the car. Spun it once in the 2nd session, but no other spins all day, was very wet. Not bad considering Nangkangs up front and Marshall rears.

Not a bad effort I think, taking a car on track within 14 hours of owning it :D

Had numberous compliments, most people asking if it was a turbo all were suprised it wasn't. I even had a BMW MZ roadster owner come and ask what power it was because I was "very fast down the straight".

I guess its not slow after all :D

I used to love my 2.8 Capri. Pant-wetting on corners though but easy to control in comparison to an MR2 slide.

I had to let mine go though. Something was failing on it every week, from fuel pump to hoses to radiators. The AA cancelled my membership after 5 months because I'd called them out so many times lol.

Beautiful car though, in a 'I drive a capri and I don't care that you think' way. I miss the rawness of it.

Nice clean MR2 though there, one of the few cars to look good in white. I'm still quite suprised how quick my N/A is after 4000 revs, especially over 60MPH.

I'll check the diary tonight :D

both cars have sound tested at 99dB though, although I think the MR2 most of the noise comes from the induction so I can deal with that :)

The 5 will be back on the road then and maybe with a new exhaust as well. The turbo ate something hence its off the road at present :(

Drive by should be ok, but if its the usual 45degrees 1.5m away from the pipe, then best to hire a sound meter first.

A guy with a Cosworth Turbo Caterham yesterday spend all morning re-stuffing his exhaust as they wouldn't let him out it was a 99db limit , 99 being ok 100 being fail  Think he got 2 session in at the end of the day, he was well pee'd, he said he'd never even considered it may fail noise regs.

Great pics mate - this reminds me exactly why I'm putting mine back to standard bodywork.

Your car looks beautiful.

Cheers :thumleft:

I always thought the rev3 looked the best, my previous rev2 I converted to OEM rev3 spoiler and smoothed the wings. Thought this time I'd buy the car I actually wanted colour and body wise.

White rev3, sunroof was spot on, I removed the tints on the rear 1/4's yesterday and have gone back to the orange front lights, lights really because I like it all to be legal and the crystals were single bulb, orange side lights that double up as indicators.

I always thought my ideal 2 would be a hardtop white rev3 turbo, but I'm actually really liking having an n/a again and I did tilt the sunroof today when I popped out without thinking about it so i'm wondering if this is actually the ideal one.

I've said to myself I'm keeping this as the cheap car so no spending on it, but I did order nice new OEM style gear and handbrake gaters last night.

I'm also getting tempted to replace the open cone filter with a closed in filter / cold air feed like the green cotton..

Also as its so low,.. which does look really good, the front suspension bottoms out hitting joins in motorway sections,.... not ideal so a nice set of coilovers could be good... #-o

And so it begins!

What is the current suspension set up? The car looks great for it. Is it just on lowering springs at present?

My turbo is on standard suspension and the previous owner has fitted aftermarket wheels and tyres but not kept the same overall diameter so she scrubs quite badly.

Not good when your boosting along mountain roads in third gear!

I think I might just change the wheels an tyres though as I don't want to compromise the ride by fitting coilovers. My silver rev3 was on tein's and was rock hard which was annoying day to day.
