My heater controls

Post by Davidbeaven »

The heater controls are removed by removing the.

Gear knob
gear knob suround
pannel underneath the streaing wheel
the pannel with the radio in.

There are 4 screws hich hold the heater conrol in, aswell as two cables for Hot/Cold control and two electrical coectors.

get some ulra bight LED's from maplins (preferably wide angle) remove the standard bulds (3 or 4 off) and keep the holers.

Next bit is fiddly.

Unwrap the wire from the holders and replace th bulbs for the LEDs

Sorted

Be brave and take a box of plaster and tin (the tin being for the sware box collection, u should hav a enought change or a pint by the time u have finished)!

Very easy, you go in from the front bonnet, climb through a rubber gromit OS "don't forget to take a torch with you, you'll need it and don't forget the bulbs ;)"
You'll need to be quite slim to slip your arm up through where the loom goes and feel for the bulbs " you might even get your head through if it's small enough but put your arm through first with the torch".

Anyone considered just using glass paint on the orginal bulbs.

I did that on mine and they worked fine, did all my bulbs in the dash including the ones in my CD player!!!!

You don't get any benefit of longer life or brighter LED's, but you get the better light spread of bulbs and a much easier / cheeper job.

I've seen Dash LED's on E-bay for £15. They use either 3 or 5 LED's. Are you just paying £5 per LED, or is there some kind of fancy decal or extensive fitting kit? Has anyone bought one? :|

Check my profile for pics of dash with blue bulbs...

You only need 4 of them

The pic in the profile was using the standard 501 led bulbs they were a bit too focused in places so I fashoned some paper filters for them and they look fine now. Make sure you get ones with frosted glass or wide angle ones when you do it.

Mine came from led lightbulbs they have a .co.uk website somewhere

There is a how 2 in the knowlege base on how to remove your dash... its not a bad job but it can be a bit of a pain to detatch all the wires from the back of it. Took me about 30 mins to do the whole thing
