[Mk2] [Turbo] Back in the club - bought a yellow rev4 turbo *NOW WITH PICS!

Post by James Junior »

Hi all,

After a brief hiatus from MR2 land I have returned! I just couldn't stay away...

I had traded in my rev5 NA for a BMW 320D but shortly afterwards a friend of mine called me for some buying advice for MR2's and before I knew it I had convinced myself that I needed another turbo! (damn you Janan!)

The Beamer is now gone and I am now the owner of a REV4 T-bar Turbo in yellow with just 47k on the clock.

The car needs a little tidying up so is due for a stay with Peter Gidden at SBITS in a week or two.

I am having the HKS turbo timer removed along with an aftermarket yellow pressure gauge and some chunky side skirts, all of which I will be selling via IMOC. (PM me if interested)

I'll take some pics of the car and the sale items and post them later.

Its good to be back! :D

Okay so here is the car as she stands now:-

Bumper is a little extreme for my taste!

Boost gauge up for grabs if anyone is interested.

Image

Hmmmm nice fitting!

Image

Not keen on the stereo or the dodgy fitment so have changed this now for a nice Kenwood head unit which is all neatly fitted.

Image

Departure exhaust – LOUD!

Image

I like the skirts from some angles…

Image

…but not from others…

Image

Turbo timer up for grabs!

Image

The body work is mostly very good with just the front wings in need of a little attention.

I had always wanted a yellow turbo so I jumped at the chance to bag this one when I saw it come up for sale. REV4 turbos are rare as it is let alone a yellow REV4 T-bar with under 50k miles. I am very pleased despite there being a few jobs to do!

Also the car is nigh on standard which again is a big plus point I my book.

Currently the only mods are:-
- Induction kit
- Departure exhaust (bloody loud – I have set two car alarms off already!)
- Turbo Timer
- Bumper and skirts
- Wheels

Over the weekend I re-sealed the t-bar panels with some black silicone and last night I fitted a new Kenwood head unit as the Blaupunkt one that was in there wasn’t fitted very well and felt a bit cheap.

The car currently lacks any proper security so I’m having a CAT1 alarm and immobiliser fitted tomorrow. I keep waking up in the night worrying that someone will have her off the drive so looking forward to getting this sorted!

Next priority for me is to have those skirts taken off and to have the body work given a quick blow over so it is absolutely mint. Whilst she is with SBITS I hope to have the following work done:-

- Re-fitting two new wings which will be drilled to keep the UK side repeaters
- Removal of those big chunky side skirts
- Clean up of original sills and give them a blow-over
- Removal of turbo timer and boost gauge
- Replace orange side repeaters with clear ones
- Fitting speed-hut 180mph dials and de-limiting

I also want to put the bumper back to standard too but I think all of the above is enough for the moment and I want to be able to take my time sourcing a tidy standard bumper in A1 condition. (if anyone has one please PM me!)

I will be offering the side skirts, boost gauge and turbo timer for sale via IMOC so any interested parties please give me a PM.

Next jobs will probably be to have the alloys refurbished, paint the callipers red and put the bumper back to standard. Then once the car is in perfect condition I can decide whether I leave it there or not. I already fancy changing the wheels actually so they may also be up for sale in the near future once they have been fully refurbished of course! Also if anyone has an interest in the front bumper please PM me.

Hopefully she should be in great shape in within a few weeks and I can enjoy her for the summer!

That car seriously needs some rear spats if you are keeping those skirts. :)

Sard front bumpers are also quite rare - as are late yellow t-bars. Well done chap. :thumleft:

Rather than fit some rear spats I am just going to remove the skirts.

The bumper will definitely be going soon too I think - it is a great fit so I imagine it must be the real thing?

The car was a UK sale - I am the third UK owner.

The vendor had her taxed and serviced for me before I picked her up.

Good question Toni - off the top of my head I think about 3 years but I'll have to check.

Will get you a pick of the engine this evening - not very exciting through as its virtually standard!

Looks lovely that mate but whoever had the car seriously needs a lesson in valeting. Looks like someones been eating cookies inside with all the bits lol.

I think the skirts and bumper look good. Im not a fan of most body kits but that looks just right, not too over the top.

Black alloys and black lights has to be the way forward...

I am not a big fan of black alloys usually mate but I must admit I have been considering some for this car.

Its about time you got some pictures of your new purchase up here for us!

Hope you managed to change the gaiter okay mate.

Looks very nice, think the skirts are PP? They look so odd because toy have no skirts on the back, and possibly need different width/offset wheels, but the wheels should be okay if your removing the skirts.
As said, Sard front is rare :thumleft:

Hi Robbie,

Yes I remember!

As it turned out I never even used that filter box in the end and gave it to the bloke who sold me the silver tubby as he'd had an induction kit nicked off of one of his other MR2's.

Have you still got the blue turbo?
